Question Removing Hitch? Any Hard Number Gain Or Loss??

I am wondering if anyone has made a run then removed the hitch and made another pass the same day and got a better or worse time??

If you did is it harder to launch??? I guess the question is Is removing the hitch worth it??

to me .10 would be as I never pull anything anyway, but I am concered it may be harder to launch

Thanks
Matt

As long as your not spinning it's worth it. Simply...it's less mass to accelerate.

they say every 100lbs is a tenth.
I'm not sure it is true with the Lightning.

Easy way to save weight:
remove tailgate, spare, Jack (under seat) hitch and passenger seat.

But remember your driving a brick wall aerodynamically, so when the MPH get up there, you need something.

Do you use the hitch? if not dump it.

If so, keep it on along with the other stuff you use when you drive it daily.

What are goona say to that ZO6 driver at the next stop light?
"Hold on man, I gotta drop my spare, yank my tail gate and pull my pass. seat"?

He's already said he doesnt use it. So removing it won't be a problem. His question is, is there any way it can hurt him with traction... Has it been proven to hurt anyone?

I removed the entire hitch assembly in the first week I bought my L. Just by feel the thing must weigh 60lbs or so. I don't have anything to compare to as far as traction, but just like adding another mod that improves performance you have to learn to feather her before you mash that throttle. But make sure you coat the exposed frame rail areas where the hitch was or they will begin to show rust.

yes,it along with the spare tire will give you about a tenth. It also will make you spin a little easier so its kinda shootin yourself in the foot because your cant get your shoe off. With slicks it will work.without slicks it just makes launching more interesting. But it does work.Between the jack, hitch, and tire its well over 100lbs.

I noticed that when i do this AND put in drop shackles,it seems to fix the traction issues .

Don't forget to do the enema. Depending on how much dinner you ate....it could be worth another tenth.

I'd say that hitch weighs about 40 to 45 pounds. I highly doubt keeping the hitch would keep the tires from breaking loose.

I couldn't tell you about just the hitch because I removed the back bumper, spare tire & hitch all together and noticed a huge loss in traction with a radial tire because of the weight loss...
