Off topic....need WRX web site...
I have a kid that is blowing smoke in my butt about his WRX....I was wondering if anyone knows of a web page and or/message board where I can do some research, etc.
Thanks,
Tom

He has a regular WRX and he has the usual "invinciblility" complex most of the young ricers have, hehe. I know they can be made fast but I was curious to see what they are doing to them and how fast they run. How do you like the STi?
my son has a 2004 regular WRX. no contest for my lightly modded (no chip, no pulley) 2001 lightning. (he hates that). i have raced him at the track quite a few times - no contest.
best I can do with a manual boost controller set at 15.5psi, KN filter is 14.3@96MPH. that's coming out of the hole at 5500RPM clutch drop (not good for the car) and shortshifting @6000 rpm, which it seems to like.
good from a roll, IF you are above 3k rpm; good top end , etc. do NOT race one in the rain or on any slippery surface. they are bears.
i've always owned manual trans cars until the lightning, so i was used to shifting for past 35 years. however, WRX is very difficult to keep boost up between gears, unless mods are done.
at E-town, most regular WRX's are in the 14's also. STI's i've seen are between 12.98 (the fastest i've seen at drag strip) to 13.9 or so. they are NOT made for drag racing, but are excellent handling cars for autocross, etc.
making a regular WRX fast requires some pretty serious mods (exhaust, down/up pipes, ECU upgrade, etc.), and some bucks, but it can be done.

I too have been fortunate enough to have one of each. Here's a great thread that has thus far remained pretty on-topic.

A stock WRX vs a stock L, the L will walk it bad. Stock STi vs a stock L and the STi will walk the L. Throw mods into to the picture and who spends the most wins. The fastest WRX I know of runs mid 8's. Obviously that is not a street driven car. No more than an 8-sec L could be street driven.
As stated above watch out if you play on the street with one. Traction is not an issue with the AWD. Stock STi's are averaging 1.6x 60ft times on stock street tires. It takes about $1200-$1500 for an STi to run mid to low 12's. Basically a full turbo-back exhaust and a cold air intake. As soon as the engine management is out for the STi deep into the 11's will be no problem.
I love my STi. In fact I drove the L to work this morning (raining). By 9:30 it started snowing heavily. I tip-toed home in the L and jumped into the STi. Had a blast with the AWD in the snow. Handled like a dream. Didn't even have to lock the center diff.

what is your E-mail address I ihave a Lightning v WRX race vid.
WRX takes it off the line, but the L passes it quickly.
(from the sound of the engine the WRX had a HIGH RPM launch)
