Anyone using separate fuse box?
Anyone using separate fuse box?
I don't like the way my gauges are wired. Specifically, I'm looking at rewiring everything as I add some lights under the bedrails.
In my strong desire to keep the OE wiring harness virgin, I'm considering adding a new fuse box for power to keep the harness clean. Hoping to find someone that has done this (or similar already) so I'm not reinventing the wheel.
Specifically, I don't want to tap any wires (right now their all fuse-tapped, which is just not tidy enough for me) and I'd like to control the dimmer for the gauges separately from the stock setup. I haven't found anyone that has done this yet.
Anyone out there tackled this and can give some advice?

I did this... got me a Painless Fuse Box and installed it under the existing one.
Mine gave me 7 new connections, 4 are hot and 3 are ignition turn on. You will only need to connect 3 wires to installed the fuse box:
1. Directly to the battery
2. Ground
3. A 12V Ignition turn on in the fuse box.
I also did this because I did'nt want to hack into the stock box and wires.

Did you put an inline fuse or relay from the fuse box to the battery to protect from surges?
I assume it was this one:
7-CIRCUIT AUXILIARY FUSE BLOCK
#70107 - 3 constant-hot and 4 ignition-hot circuits. Uses one 30 amp relay.
Thanks for the info. Very helpful.
