I just layered the paint layer. Once you've done this you can play in:

Levels,
Hue/Saturation,
Selective Colors
Brightness/Contrast

Those four options give you lots to play with.

I don't have photochop, I just use PSP since it does 95% of what I want. However, I've done color changes like these, with close to identical results. What I haven't figured out is how to keep the gloss, or the light reflections after the color shift. I know BMWBig6 knows how...would or could one of you qurus explain the principles? I'd like to see if they can be duplicated in PSP. Either way, thanks for you photoshop guru's contributions.

It's tough to get clean reflections...but BMWBig6 can do it! Here is my feeble attempt:
