built block or new blower?

Well in a few months (about 2 to be exact) I'll be investing in either a built short block or a KB. What do you suggest? I know JLP has a great deal going on with their short block, now if I opt for the KB with my current 6# pulley would that be safe? Both are about the same price, let the opinions comence.

Should not be much commencing.

Built short block.

Have you seen the amount of stock blocks (4 in the last month alone...JJ,BTJ,JL,KBZilla) that have blown. (also SWEDE) running a KB and there just the ones I can remember.

That should pretty much settle any arguements.

The defense rests.

I think I will get the block first, after having seen your thread KB ZILLA, I'll just play it safe. I want to be able to just stomp on it without fear of the engine going boom

I vote block also. Get the foundation, most $$$ and harder mod out of the way.

From what I heard, you can do a lot with the KB even on a stock block. I have heard of the recent blown motors with the kb, but people are blowing them on the Eaton also, I think if you're smart about it you can really take advantage of the twin screw.
A built bottom end is great, but you need to decide if you want to go that route, or just getting a blower and run a safe tune on the stock block... (is that worth the money to you?)
I would like to say I'd get the block, and then I'd feel A LOT better when I drive my truck. But then another part of me wanst to pull the Eaton off and put on a KB or a WORKS and run the boost im running now, make more power than I'm making now, but at a lot more efficient way. (on stock block)
It's all up to you... Both are great for your money, if you can't do both, its going to be hard picking whats better.
Good luck, Shane

I know I want to feel/see my investment... but I know if I'm going to go any faster/farther with my engine, I will want to build it up.

I'm hoping to see some 11's, low 12's on f1's before I build the bottom end up. See how much I can do with simple bolt-ons and good dyno tuning. Wanna stretch my Eaton to it's limits, including having it ported.

If you are happy with high 11's, I think the stock block will take quite a bit of abuse. If you want to run higher boost and hit low 11's or 10's, I'd build the block first. A built block alone will be quite boring with the Eaton, but if you do heads and cams it will be worth the wait for the KB.

If I had to do it over again, I would do the same. I have pushed my L as far as my comfort level allows (496/562) and I am very happy with the results of the KB and my other mods.

When and if she breaks, then I get the block.
