Plugs: can we stop them from "popping" out?

There are just too many stories of plugs popping out and blowing motors. Is it possible to get the plug in there so good it won't come out? I know the '03-'04's have more threads, but what about the rest of us??

Try JB Weld I guess, Drive it for a while and trade it off as you wouldn' t want to see the bill when it is plug change time.

when did you get your '03?

I'd be willing to bet that you have an early production '03 with the old heads. I could be wrong, but I doubt it. I had over 10,000 miles on my '03 when I changed the plugs and all 8 were tight as could be.

later,
chris

Have to admit that the post by light03 is kind of a strange one. Just 4 or 5 days ago he was asking about if any 03's had a problem with blown plugs and stated he hasn't had a problem with his yet. Now 5 days later he blows a plug? I guess maybe he wished bad luck upon himself by starting the thread.

Aside from putting in a helicoil, the best thing you can do to prevent a plug going out is get in there and make sure they all tightning properly, then pray it doesn't happen.

It would have had to be real darned early. My truck was built on the second day of production and it has the new heads. I have truck number 115.

The #4 plug is the hardest plug to get in and out because of the AC hoses and fire wall at that spot. I would bet alot of money he got that plug cross threaded in without realizing it happened. If not, then he had a loose plug from the factory.

I have been told by SVT people twice now that ALL of the 2003 Lightnings received the "new" head style. They could be B.S.ing me but I have to believe them since truck number 115 produced on day 2 of production has them.

After popping the 3rd back on the passenger side, I plan on just checking mine every oil change...

Fortunately Ford is getting better (at least for me) on warranty claims for popped plugs. My tech called it in, and with really no questions asked, approved the new head install. Should get it back in a few days.
