Ford has assembled a prototype next-generation Lightning and, like the current model which is based on the previous-generation F-150’s PN96 platform, it’s powered by a supercharged 5.4L Triton V-8. Differences include improved output – 500 hp compared with the ’04-model’s 380 hp – and an F1-style, steering wheel-mounted paddle shifter for the truck’s automatic transmission.

HELL YES!
F1 SHIFT PADDLES!

Eat that Dodge!

Hey wait a minute
Paddle Shifting aint gonna mean schitt unless they give us
manual control over the shifting (which we don't have now)

COULD IT BE

Ok so let me get this straight
There is a Lightning God, and her name is Lisa Sparaxxx
And we're gonna have paddle shifting

YA BABY, I am gonna be a Michael wanna be

I can shed some light on this. There will not be a F-150 S/C Harley truck in the new body prior to the release of the 3rd gen "L." The F-250 will be the next gen harley truck.

No paddle shifter for the new L. Ford is trying to keep the cost of the new L around $35K-$37K. We will not see the super cooler in the next L. The performance numbers on the SRT RAM are not enough for SVT to go all out. It would add additional cost to the truck, SVT's budget for durability testing and a risk for high warranty repair.

SVT's intentions are to advertise the gen 3 L as the dominant sport truck, a SRT RAM killer, and out performs the competition for $10k less. That is going to be Coletti's slogan.

We will not get a GT engine in the next gen L. They are going to pick and choose certain parts to incorporate into the next L 5.4L engine. It will be a wet sump and the truck will take on additional 300lbs. That is why it will also need 450+hp to move it's tailgate down the track.

Nobody special. Just a woman who shook things up around here for a little while. "pornstarracing," I think, was her screen name.

Rob_02Lightning,

Sorry to spoil the pipe dream...lol Ford's bean counters and SVT's limited budget will not give us the exotic goodies we would like on the new L. We will get some components from the GT engine. Not the whole engine package. SVT's focus is to stomp the SRT and do it with a price tag in the mid-high $30'S.

The paddle shifters would add considerable time to R&D along with durability testing to add paddle shifters to a new 5 speed auto. Calibration is another subject. Trust me, you wouldn't want the L to be the guinea pig on the paddle shifters...

Lincoln LS should have been fitted with the paddle shifting on their 5-speed auto prior. Instead we give the customers a SS/T lame shifter.

I hope SVT doesn't get cheep and divert from the center console shifter. The new F-150 reg cab, step-side is 300lbs heavier than our current L's, with the full boxed frame and larger cab.

I'm not saying that there will never be a F-150 S/C Harley again in the new body. I'm just saying the New Lightning will be first. The run of F-150 Harley's are over. The F-250 with the new front end re-designed will be Harley's poster child for a while.

I'm going to wait on the (3V or 4V) lower intake to upgrade my 01 L. The 5.4L 3V has the same intake port design as the Navi, 03/04 Cobra, Mach 1 and Maurader. It will be easy to change over our 2V heads to 4V when the lower intake becomes available.

LightningKid,

I sent you an e-mail...

I think the most important question is, will the next gen Ls motor have forged internals? Cant kill Rams if you have to worry about Rods
