Just wanna run 12s

I've been searching here, nloc, and a few vendors for the past couple days and am quite confused. I don't want to mod the hell out of this thing being my daily driver (I have a turbo 4.6 for raising hell in). I want to be able to have this thing last its full life expectancy. I have heard to stay away from rpmoutlet. JDM is high as hell on their prices. I do have my own performance shop so I know what this stuff costs. What do I need to get me around 12.6-9 without spending a whole lot and ruining the motor after 50,000 miles? Is a 6lb pulley too much? I really wanna just do magnaflow catback, chip, pulley, maf, intake, plugs and leave it at that if that will get me close to where I want to be. Who would you get your chip from? I heard JLP keeps them a little rich which would be good.

Give us a call. We have an ongoing "combo" special which includes a chip, filter kit, and a pulley setup. Might just fit the bill.

The cat back will give you no gains. If you want a mean sound then do that cat back.

A 4 or 6 Pound pulley, conservative chip, colder plugs, and an air intake (with a cols air set up) will land you in the 12's no problem.

My mods are

6# pulley, Diablo Chip, Densi IT 22 plugs and intake with custom cold air.

Off the slicks I have ran a best of 12.8@106mph
With the slicks I have run 12.6@107 mph

Another word of advice is if you run slicks you "NEED" some sort of traction device be it Rancho style or slapper bars. That way you wont get axle wrap and tear abart your rear U-joint and Drive shaft.

Now as for reliability. Since you own a speed shop (as do I) you know mods and reliability dont really go together. I understand what you are saying and what you want to do is minimize the risk.

Let me tell you that no one an tell you what mods are going to be safe. Some run an 8# pulley and never have a problem, some run a 4# pulley and throw a rod.

There are so many factors involved.
-driving style
-weather
-tune on the chip
-plugs

If you do mod then remember there is always a risk of your truck going boom. My lightning is also my daily driver but I chose to take the risk and get her into the mod 12's.

Good luck with your choice.

Oh yes, and as for who to go with.

Go with someone you know id going to sell a high quality product and great customer service. Even if the price is a bit higher it lowers the risk factor.

JLP, REM, PSP, JDM are all good and I am sure there are others.

JLP chip, 3# pulley and filter will net you a 12.7 in good weather.

...and on F1's with decent track prep

yeah I did the same (with a 4# pulley) on f1's... chip, filter and pulley should get you there even on stock tires. The weather was good and the track was prepped pretty good.

After more research...

How does this combo sound?

K&N w/ air box mod
Superchip programmer (Just in case she pops a plug)
4lb pulley
Magnaflow exhaust

Out of curiosity, why stay away from RPM Outlet? Do they have a higher rate of blowing up L's with their tunes than the other tuners do? Is this an ongoing problem or something theyve cured?

Give you three guesses why Im asking... lol
