For guys with the Ford CD-6 changer...

...how many have that annoying fan noise? I just retrofitted one into my 02 L, and the fan noise was driving me crazy. So I opened up the changer and disconnected it! Has anyone else tried this, or other methods of getting rid of it? I will let you all know if the truck catches fire due to the head unit overheating. (BTW, I do know that OEM stereos suck, but I love the way it matches the dash, that's why I have it.)

I had mine replaced under warrenty. At first I thought it was a fuel pump. The second unit is much better. I've only heard the fan once and only after listening to it at moderate volume. So I guess that not all of them do it.

Where did you get the unit from? If it wasn't new then maybe it was an warrenty exchange. Gotta love Ebay.

NO noise here

I have the 6 cd changer and havent noticed any noise at all. I notice everything when it comes to audio, I've had amps where I've could here the fan, but not this deck. I'm pretty happy with this OEM deck, it may not have the rca outputs like the aftermarkets, but the sound quality is just as good.. My 2 cents..

or you could just put louder exhaust on your truck! Just kidding.

I have an 03, and haven't heard the noise yet. I'll be listening for it now though.

I've got an '04 and I have the noise... drives me bonkers. I'm going to insist that the dealer replace it... but have been holding off on going in until I get more miles on my truck to make sure there's nothing else that needs to be done.

I get pretty crappy reception too... I'm hoping the new stereo will fix that, but if not I'm going to install a signal booster.

I put one in my 02 this spring and I love it! Ford shudda done it right in the first place (putting cassette players in cars should be as obsolete as 8 tracks).

I usually turn the tunes up pretty loud, and I confess, I have never heard any fan noise at all. In fact, if I hadn't read your post, I never would have known there WAS a fan. My unit is out of a 2003 SuperCrew.
