Weld 16X8 for the front? Anyone tried it?

I recently bought some nice 16x10 wheels with slicks for the rear. I had a pair of Weld 16x8 (very light) Prostar XP's that i am selling but got to thinking why not put a standard radial street tire on them and use them to replace the front wheels/tires at the track. Would it be worth the effort? Heck, i see no reason why i couldn't drive it to the track with this set-up? (just change out the rear at the track)

I considered doing the same thing.

It seems like it would work just fine and save a few pounds on the front.

I found a little top end and a slight 1/4 improvement with mine. I also get alot of compliments on the "matching" wheels at the track.

Oh....and I leave the front on like you where saying for the drive to the track. Cuts down on tire changing time.

Credit, where credit is due......I got the idea from Donsbolt

Are you running 16x8 front and rear?

I have the same wheels and saw that FFW pic of your truck, that was where I got the idea.

What sixe and brand front tires are you using?

Thanks
Eric

16x7 on front....16x10 rear. I don't think the 16x7 welds are available anymore. I bought them on a discontinued plan...LOL.

The 16x8 are the same I am sure. Like I said...I drive mine that way all the time. Then I just change the rear at the track and I am then ready for racing with my 16x28x10 slicks.

The front tires are a Yokohama P235/60R16 99V(speed rating).

I am a little disatisfied with them for one reason only. They have a slightly shorter stance than my rears...about a half inch I believe..and I have some concerns over sitting lower in the front than the back on my launch. I don't know that a half inch is a biggy, but it bugs me.

Thanks for the responses. Richard/Don , what size/type of tire do you use on the 16x8's for the front. Also, Richard are we gonna do Kinston again next year? It was a good time last year.

Would have liked to make it Richard but i am installing the Rancho style bars today. You will see Superfords most likely. Let me know when you want to go to Kinston, I'd have to do it on a Sat, John.

It has been awhile since I bought mine. Now that you have me thinking about it....my wheel size on my rears could very well be the 16x8.5. My slicks are 16x10x28 and I am thinking that when I set it up I was told that the 10" slick on the 8.5 wheel would give me slightly more footprint. Please verify this as I am really straining the brain here trying to remember.
