advice on driving with NOS???

Need some help. I am picking up my L tommorow and have just installed a 35-150 shot Nitous Express system on the truck. To say the least I am excited but a little nervous too. How quick will it be? At WOT, and I hit the switch, will it pull me back? Can I hit the NOS at WOT?...never driven with NOS before so any help/advice would be appreciated!!!!

I haven't a clue, but how big is the shot on your truck?
(says 35-150) what size jet do you have installed

You can ONLY juice it at WOT, NEVER EVER anything less.
What type of trigger do you have ? Mine works off a voltage signal from the TPS and can only spray at WOT. Most have Micro switches mounted off the pedal or throttle body, some use button's, what do you have ? 100 HP is too much to test with for the voyage run. Do not use bigger than 50 or so HP to test it, make sure there's no detonation or pinging at all. As for how fast it is, you'll prob be disappointed at first, it's not what you expect,
well actually 150HP jets are, but DO NOT test there.
Don't juice it and get right off it, simply wait for your usual brake in traffic (a parkway entrance ramp is perfect) make sure there's plenty of room. Do a rolling in 1st gear WOT and stay in it til 80-100 WHILE LISTENING VERY CAREFULLY for sounds. Hear ANYTHING you don't like, get off it.

Nothing to worry about at all, just don't juice it over and over, respect it, AND ENJOY IT/

But please make sure you have cold plugs, a fairly low timing program, and the highest octane you can find,
BEFORE even attempting to test it

Hey Rob,
Just wanted to thank you for your posts about the nitrous issue (both threads)...there a huge help and it makes Nitrous seem a more reasonable (and less expensive) way to get added power.....another question for you about the nitrous - is there a switch or a button on your truck....what i mean is when does the spray "know" when to stop??

Good question LightningCT, I'm sure Michael's interested in that one too, so a few more tips for you. LOL

You should have 1 to 3 switches plus the trigger.
With mine, I mounted two switches right to the left of the steering wheel

That one there, arms the system (you have that somewhere)

Then I have another under it

That one turns my heater on,
Most have a heater ? if you do, there will be a switch for it.

Tip:
YOU WANT THE NITOUS AT AT LEAST 900 PSI BEFORE SPRAYING

You may also have an electrice bottle opener ? I don't,
that would detail another switch.

You may also have a purge ? I don't again that would detail
a switch or button.

Then of course you have the actually trigger (with me it's electric)
know where and what it is, know what each and every switch does, and just make sure you only arm it, when your gonna use it

With me a typical juicing will detail
Turn the Nitrous Bottle on and Hit the Heater switch.
I'm getting to learn how long it'll take to initially warm the bottle up to 900PSI (thats @ 10 minutes if it's fairly cold and the tanks been out there all night)

Once it hits temp, my heater automatically shuts off and then maintains temp (psi)
Then it needs to be purged
I do mine the old fashion way, I STOMP IT a few times a few blocks before I get to the track. If you have a purge line, you simply give it a blast or two and your set.
On the street none of this really matters, I just open the valve hit the heater and if I see an oppurtunity, I arm it and stomp it.

Rob thanks for the information!!! You are always willing to help. I am in the middle of setting my set up. I put my purge where your main units is and am looking for a place for the unit now.

I am purging through the hood

Here are the switches

And the bottle

If you have any idea on another place to put the main unit, it would be a great help.

Alvin, AWESOME job with the install.
Love it

As for the unit, you may have trouble finding another spot ??
The Fuel and Nitrous "out hoses" are short and don't give you
many options. I tried the other side but couldn't get the hoses
to reach the plate.

Are you spraying with the PSP Plate ? (I am), or did you drill
and tap the nozzle right into the upper manifold ?
Where your Nozzle is, is gonna kind of restrict you to where you can put the control unit

Here's the view form under the Throttle Body,
(my nozzle going in to the PSP Plate)

Then of course you also may have an issue with the Fuel "in"
hose depending where you mount the Unit. I take my fuel
from the passenger side Fuel rail, the fittings there already
and not being used, so it made sence, WORKS PERFECT,
and just reaches.

I have full Custody of my son (he's 9 now) even know I don't juice it with him, sometimes the Bottle would be in, so I absolutely wanted the bottle as far away from him as possible, thats why I choose the rear drivers side. With that in mind, again
really had no other choice of where to put the unit.

It looks like there's plenty of room for both the Purge and Control
box right there ?

Of course most of these pic's were during installation, all the wires have been cleaned up and covered now.

Like I say, I wanna redo my Bottle, and get a bed rug when I get some EXTRA cash ?

My Bottle is all the way in the rear, worked out better with where
I ran the hoses, plus I can open the valve and read the guage from the tail gate without climbing in, or messing with the Top.

Yes it was raining AND SNOWING when I did the install

Like I said I use mine as a truck ocassionally so I wanted a
way to hide everything and have full 4ft x 8ft use of my bed

My version of a cheap mans quick disconnect
I permantely inserted (4) 1/4 20 female anchors in the bed floor
then the Bottle, Heater, and Brackets stay together and come out
and go in as one piece. I simply unhook the two heater wires,
(cant see the black one, but it's there) and of course the Nitrous line. Then all of it gets tucked away under that rubber side piece.
I know it's ugly, but who looks inside ?

That was the first version

Below is what I used at English Town a few weeks ago
""THANKS GATOR"" he made me the new brackets

I like the new angle too

Again everything lifts out in one piece
4 simple 1/4 20 bolts with 1/2 heads hold it in

Hey Rob (or anyone for that matter),
Is it safe/possible to mount the nitrous directly behind the driver or passenger seats? Also, can the bottle be removed if it is not being used or does it always have to be hooked up when driving (just the tank, not the whole unit)....thanks

Some have it behind the seat,
BUT
The bottle should be at a certain postition to work correctly.
Valve towards front of truck, Inlet connection FACING DOWN
Can also be straight up or at a slight angle

And yes, My tank is never in, unless it's HAMMER TIME.........
