Gotta love it when people start bitchin about how you all's posting opinions and ****.
Then goes on to post an OPINION.
FWIW,
Dodges suck, Vipers are garage queens.

13.401 was with a 6lb pulley, jdm chip, and some sort of intake, but don't remember for sure which one... After that I put a bunch more mods on but never dynoed it again....
You are right... torque is the key. HP is merely a function of torque and Ford hit the magic button in terms of torque down low with this particular engine.... I can't wait to see the GenIII...
The above truck is now up for sale as I bought another HD that come complete with every mod in the book almost... JL built block, heads, cams, KB, etc. etc... It's rather strong...
The thing that moves these fatazz trucks is torque...but you've got to get it to the ground in a useable manner. The torque converter for the L stores a tremendous amount of energy that is dissipated evenly to get some great 60ft times. The SRT-10 is going to have higher mph in the quarter, but the current L is going to get there quicker 9 times out of 10.
I'm glad that someones finally coming out with a challenger to the L, and the higher they set the bar, the better the next L will be. I think the higher mph will reflect the increased hp, but it's going to take a little chassis work and some big slicks to get the et's to drop.
Oh well, enough bench racing...soon enough we'll know how the SRT-10 will do...all this arguing just get's virtual spit on each other's face and don't prove a thing.

01's wife here.
Using that hp/weight = E.T. is very simplistic, and "assumes" way too much.
It does not take into account how the hp/tq is made, gear ratios, drag, tires, or any of a hundred other things that go into racing. From all that I have read on various boards (Dodge included), the SRT-10 is going to have problems getting into high 12's even. The reason?????......... wheel hop and a 3-foot long stick shift. Even Dodge guys are predicting a best of high 12's with a professional driver who really learns the truck.
22's do not equate to good 1/4 mile times. Also, please show me a drag radial / wheel package that can fit over 14"+ rear rotors with a truck lug pattern.
Now, I am not bashing the truck in any way. It will be very nice.......... expensive, but nice. I welcome the competition.
One final thing......... to assume (there is that word again) that Ford is upping the power of the Gen III simply because of the SRT-10 is kinda silly............ don't ya think??? Look at the history of the Lightning. The Gen 1 had 240hp, the Gen II has 360/380hp, so it is just natural progression that the Gen III would have more hp yet. Yes it is nice that the Gen III will beat DCX, however, they are not the sole reason that it will do so.

Now to address your questions, Yes the HP/Weight = ET are not perfect. However, that figure shows what the Best possible ET that can be acheived with X amount HP. Its up to you to put the power to the ground, find best ways to eliminate drag and produce best aerodynamics. I only used the Weight/power ratio and ET calculator because I was asked if I knew what it was. I also say that Ford is upping the Gen III due to Dodge because that is what came out of John Colleti's(sp) mouth. He said, Ford would not be beat by anyone. That statement there tells me, if somebody produces 600HP then Ford would up the anty because of them. The Lightning has been no different than any other Ford, Its a very affordable priced product. I will say this and I truely believe this, If you think the Gen III is gonna have all those Features the Prototype had and be less than $45K, you need to back off the crack pipe. About the rim issue, Bogart makes custom wheels for any application. I dont think the Big Dodge rear brakes will cause a problem, Im ASSuming but wouldnt a 16inch wheel clear ????

The SRT should be very fast. It's got a ton of power. Will it be problem free? Perhaps, if the owners can drive them easier than the media... smoked clutches ... and DC fixes their freaky p/s pumps.
First of all....... I ASSume nothing.
Second, I think we all know that Ford will come in at no more than $40K on the Gen III. They know their market, and they know what it will bear. Also, we already know that not everything in the concept will make it to market........ namely the IRS and 6-speed stick.
Third, do you think that SVT saw the Ram SRT-10, and only then said "Holy Xmas batman........ we better build a better mousetrap (said in hillbilly twang)." They have been working on it for quite some time now........... probably almost as long as the '04 F150 was worked on. As in "here SVT, this is pretty much what the new F150 will be.......... work your magic." Yes, the Ram may help to determine what the final numbers work out to.
Of course Coletti is going to address the SRT-10 in his speeches......... it is getting all the press right now. He has to address it to assure the SVT faithful that they are not just sitting with their thumbs up their **** orifices.
Finally, while I am not positive on this (and noone will be till they try)........... I doubt that 16" wheels and tires will fit. On the Gen II, with 13.1" rear rotors, you already have to grind the calipers to fit them. Hmmmmm, I guess if you remove the calipers on the Ram, they will then fit.
Weight/hp= E.T. calculators are pretty close for cars............ however, they cannot even fathom the different dynamics of an extremely heavy brick with a light as*ed rear end.
Like I said, the Ram is a nice truck, and will deserve respect. To immediately say, with no first hand knowledge, that it will absolutally inhialate the Gen II Lightning is simplistic at best. Frankly, I will be REAL interested to see where the payload and towing capacity comes in.......... with that car based transmission. I already have serious doubts about its ability to hold up in that heavy truck.

Ok, I lied
I will try and make this 1 my last reply.
I base that fact only based on Coletti and Scapella s' statements
http://www.pickuptruck.com/html/auto...ightning1.html If you read this press release they sure do make alot of references to Dodge, they even go as far to say they are watching how the transmission will hold the power these heavy trucks will make. He makes it sound like they will wait to see if the Dodge can take it before they try it in a Lightning.
Sorry, I cant document it for you but I have seen it done. A local Turbo Shop built a Twin Turbo setup on a Gen 1 Viper. I dont know where they got the software but the hooked up a Laptop to the car and were able to change many of the tables in the cars Stock computer.
Lemme Hold that thought.
Well its seems as if the First thing you said is wrong, You are already assuming that we (meaning you me and whoever else) know that the IRS and 6 Speed will not appear. I hadnt heard or read that, so you ASSume incorrectly. While you do seem to know more than I do, can you tell me if the Supercooler will be on the Gen III Lightning ?
More ASSumptions when you say you think they have been working on it almost as long as the 04 F150. As for the Coletti saying that SVT wont be outdone, yeah that means he has to plan around what Brand X might be building, that no ASSumption. If he doesnt then his above statement becomes false. In the interview I posted above he makes numerous references to Dodge. Maybe you should read it to understand where I base my thoughts on, They both make very specific statements saying they will make decisions after Dodge releases the SRT.
Actually you better recheck your figures because there are a few Wheels you can get without having to grind your Calipers.
INCORRECT ASSumption
I never said different please read my last post, A truck is a truck and they will both have very similar dynamics. A 380hp Truck will have to have alot of advantages to make up the differences of a 500HP truck, 310 lbs isnt enough either.
No arguement there, you have your ASSumptions, I have mine.
Finally to all, Have a nice weekend.
I will try and make this 1 my last reply.
