Talking Just bought my first Lightning

Hey guys, wanted to introduce myself... iv already signed up with the NLOC and TALON website for some of you that might have seen me around...

Anyway, i just bought a L last week, the only bad news is the loan company has taken a while to do all the paperwork and transfer funds, transfer out of state title, etc... but good news is I get my baby this weekend... Maybe even Friday...

let me tell you a little about her

2000 Black Lighting
66,000 Miles
PSP 4lb lower pully
PSP chip
johnny lightning dual ram air
90 mass air
rancho bars
autometer guages trans, boost, air/fuel
clear side markers
billet grills
dual flowmaster 40 series cat back with 3 1/2in stainless tips
Spark Plugs
BRAND NEW F1's with only 200 miles
NOT 1 scratch on entire truck (1 small rock chip in front)
Dark Tint
Bed liner

The guy started off asking about $20,000 for it and I finally got him all the way down to $16,500

there were 2 things that kinda scared me... one is that he came down so low... that actually scared me

another is, that under his factory warranty about year or so ago, he had the entire motor replaced... he said that there was a blown spark plug and they just replaced the entire motor.. Well good news is he said that he got a fresh 3yr/36,000 mile warranty on the new motor, and the motor only has about 16,000 miles on it... so I still have warranty for about 20,000 more miles

I did a carfax report and everything came back smooth, intercooler recall was done, clean title, no wrecks, etc

the bank I got the loan from made me get a $250 inspection on the truck... so a guy local to him went and inspected it and said its all good... so that made me feel a little better...

Okay, so do you think I got a steal or is the whole thing iffy? I just figured that since I still had the warranty on the engine and the inspector gave it thumbs up it should be ok

But now I would like to give it a "tune up" when I get it... with the high miles, i would like like to make sure everything is good and going strong.... so what do I do? I dont really know that much about cars... iv never had privilage of having a sports car to fix up... this is my first...

so basically just wanted to say Hi and ask you guys what you think about my truck?? and what should I do first thing when I get her to make sure she is running good?

Looks like you got a nice deal on the truck. I have a 2000 with similar mods. It would have been nice to get some of the mods thrown in there with the price of the truck when I got it.. But it is nice to research, do my homework and do the work myself. I like doing things (mods) one thing at a time and seeing what exactly im doing. But that's great you got it for $16,000. Good luck with it. Are you going to bring it to the track, or race it any?

Congrats on the purchase!

You'll be more than happy.

...as far as the tune-up, just change the oil, put ina good set of TR6 plugs, and install a new Cobra passenger side PCV valve, and block off the tube at the upper intake plenum (passenger side, rear).

Other than that - Drive it like you stole it!!

well i wont take it to the track much at all... mainly gonna be a daily driver.... not saying i wont ever take to track... but not really what i have in mind.... im glad i only live 6 miles from my work though... so i wont put many miles on it... and in summer, i have a gsxr to ride alot too

what are some other mods I can do that arent too extreme? i mean I dont want NOS and other things.... but was thinking maybe E Fan and Throttle body??? basically.... what else can I do that isnt overboard and wont harm an everyday driver?

What year gixxer do you have? I had a 98 red gixxer I just sold a week ago today. I loved it. I had it for about 7 months and put 4500 miles on it. I loved the bike. Just had to get rid of it.
Thanks, Shane

got a question for yall... the previous owner never had the truck dyno'd.... so its something i would like to do... but just a guess... how many ponies ya think she has? do 2000 models have 360 or 380 HP stock? the mods that are on might add about 20hp am i correct?

First off, congrats on the new ride. 16.5k is crazy cheap for a Lightning that is in good condition. Welcome to the board as well, lots of info around here if you know who to listen to. Have fun with your truck and be good to it, it will definitly be good to you.

My only concern about what you said is about the newer warranty. Even if he did recieve a new warranty with the new motor, all those mods pitch that warranty right out the window. Unless you find a "mod friendly" dealership to do any work you may need....that warranty is about worthless. If you take it to a non friendly shop they will void it out, then you cant get warranty work done anywhere.

also: The 99-00 trucks are rated at 360hp ..01-04 is @ 380
