Is it even possible to get one much further than 145 considering the aerodynamics of the truck?

I can't be certain my top speed has increased because I don't feel like taking it too fast anymore and buying another engine just yet. I know that I can get to higher speeds quicker thanks to mods. It only takes me about 7.5 seconds to get from 0-100 mph. I have a video in my sig picture of me accelerating from 80-140+. I don't think it would blow if I hit 145. I'm sure it could go a good 170 at least. The trouble is finding a clear road and having enough saved to buy a new engine.

Easterisland nice video. When you let off the gas and went from making boost, to making no boost the speedo stayed pegged at 140... What's the fastest you've been in the L?
Quick question about figuruing out speed. (if you are in your last gear at least...) If you take your rpm's and times them by your rear end (3.55 or 3:73), do you always get your speed?
For example if you are driving at 4200 rpm's * 3.55 = 149.10 is that always true?
Thanks, Shane

I think I had it at 165 on the digital last year or the year before. That was before I had a video camera or I would have filmed it. The cops have been out in force lately...
I'm not a math wiz. I say just have a speed goal in mind, find a clear road and see how fast it will go before you run out of space.

Shane, you have to take into account the 4th gear ratio which is .71 or .72 i think, then you take into account your rear end, and then finally tire height.

Here's a calculator, i dont know how accurate i just pulled one up real quick. There are others. Do a google search.

http://www.wheelspin.net/calc/calc92.html

and 4200 * 3.55 isnt 149.10

Oh and sorry, i meant 4th gear if your top speed. go to www.svt.ford.com to check specs for gear, i think its 2.73 ??? 1:1 and .72:1

If you carry the decimal point over two places it is.
4200*3.55 is 14910. I know we can't be going 14,000 miles an hour. So move the decimal point over two places from the right. 149.10 that sounds "about" right. Just today I was cruising at 1,000 rmp's and I was going 35 miles an hour... (same thing)
1000*3.55=35.5 I am pry way off, I am just saying...

ohhh ok, i was wondering where you came up with that. But no you have to account for the gear you are in etc like i said. There is a forumla but i forget it exactly

Ok here i found it

Formulas for MPH RPM gears & tires
mph = rpm x tire diameter / gear ratio x 336
rpm = mph x gear ratio x 336 / tire daimeter
gear ratio = rpm x tire diameter / mph x 336
tire diameter = mph x gear ratio x 336 / rpm

I think when they say tire diameter they mean in inches . . .
And gear ratio is gonna be the gear you are in times the final ratio which is the differential i believe. It's too monday for math.

top speed?

I am still looking for that!! I have an honest[on gps] 173.But my truck is not even close to stock on the drive train just stock appearing. 3.27 gears in an 8.8 IRS unit and not out of an expedition.Lowered 2 inches front upper rad blocked[partially] and 285 tires.and the stock motor would do that [and did]But would not last the entire event.I now have a JDM short block and run at steady speeds OVER 160 for up to 15 minutes with not problems.This year I WILL be reaching that 180 mark!Stan

PS After I do reach that mark I will more than likely be selling it along with the rite to make the componets that are on it that I made for it.But I first need to get there!

To be honest more than likely not.The reason being that to get to the group I run now cost megga $$$ And there is no sponsorship it it since I can not seem to get any kind of press about the truck.MM&FF did do a photo shoot but nothing came of that.And truck trends did to,but it will probably be the same.HOT ROD did one for the High roller which I was there for it but if you look at the article it is about cars and one truck a 37 ford.To go where I want and need to go I need the press.Coming out of my back pocket for the money is not going to happen next year other than the one time to prove that it can be done in a STREET drive truck. So it will more that likely be a stang or lthe GT car and go for the 240 mark instead.I can reach that for the same money as I have in the truck now.Stan
