Post F-150 4x4 / lightning blower boost

Hey guys, I have a question for you. I have a 2000 F-150 Lariat 4x4 that I am building-up this spring. I am installing a 2001 Lightning supercharger assembly in hopes of having a sleeper that can tow my toys. I have the whole supercharger assembly, fuel pump, alternator, water pump, ECM, ported lightning heads, aftermarket H-beam rods, superchip flip-chip (not burned yet), built 4R100 Transmission, etc....... I still have to buy pistons and would like to increase my boost. I am trying to figure out what combination of these would result in a fast and reliale every-day driver. I'd like to run the highest boost possible but am afraid of blowing my motor or sacrificing reliability. I've got a lot of money invested into this project and want to do it right. Can any of you please help?? Thank you, Matt

the only thing i can think of is get a hold of a lightning (forged) crank. i would say you might need a factory tech 4r100. leave the stock stall since your towing. i would also say cams but i dont know how that would effect towing (rpm range of cams). maybe some long tubes?

madferraristi,

Thanks for the link but it didn't really answer my question.

what about the transfer case? I would build that up as well, otherwise that might blow with the added extra power..

Conventional wisdom says that 14-16 PSIG is about the outer limit on a stock Lightning. The rods, rather than the head gaskets, seem to be the most common failure point.

But I'd bet my last dollar than it is not the boost, but the tune, that is killing the engines. The forces from detonation are an order of magnitude higher than the forces from even extreme boost.

But, since you have forged rods, it seems like you could easily run 14-16 lbs.

I've read in other threads that when you raise boost pressure that the intake air temp also rises any way to lower the temp. Any idea on what the stock air temp is "v.s." an additional 6# or 8# of boost? Will I be over spinning the supercharger? With an additional 8# of boost the supercharger rpm will be at 15,200 rpm at 5,000 rpm engine speed, and 16,700 rpm at 5,500 rpm engine speed. Would this still be reliable to drive every day?

This may be a dumb question, and if so, I apologize. If you put that 4R100 in your 4X4, wouldn't that make it a 4X2?

It's not a dumb question!

Basically the transmission sits between the engine and the transfer case (4x4 gearbox), so you could keep 4x4 IF you could get the 4r100 to mate with the transfer case. Not sure if it does...

Otherwise, ya you would probably need to ditch the transfer case (and lose 4-wheel drive as a result).

There are a lot of the 4x4 f150's with the 4r100 so the t-case shouldn't be a problem. If he needs a stronger one, a t-case out of a super duty will work.
