Raced a '03 Cobra at the track last night

I didn't race AGAINST one, rather a customer of mine from the Ford dealership had his '03 there and was having some trouble getting it to go down the track properly.

He is a highschool kid and I'm pretty sure that he's never been to the dragstrip before he got this car.

I'm pretty sure that it is stock except for maybe a cat back and a densecharger cold air kit. no chip, no pullies

He kept bogging or spinning and ran a 13.2 @105 and a 13.7 @109

I told him that he should be running in the 12s with that thing.

he asked me if I wanted to try it and see if I could get him a 12 slip to take to school

of course I was happy to oblige.

my first run I launched too low and the car kindof bogged a little off of the line and I missed the 4th gear shift just before the traps but got a 13.06 @107

my second run I launched a little higher and got all of the shifts right and managed a 12.75@111! I honestly don't know how that compares with other Cobras, but I thought it was decent for my second run in one of those cars.

I must say, it's very different from a Lightning, mainly the launching part, but VERY FUN TO DRIVE all the same.

the thing just pulls so hard on the top end at HIGH RPMS!

I wish I wasn't unemployed, I might have to buy one

later,
chris

BTW, the truck ran 12.30s at 110 again

Nice driving.
I know that ever since I sold my Lightning and bought the Cobra, it has been a challenge learning to launch at the track. The shift light comes on and I keep forgetting it is not an automatic !!
12.7 is a nice run, especially on the Goodyears.
You are absolutey right about the higher RPM power on these cars. They pull great.
It is a little amazing to me that I hit 4th gear around the 1100 foot mark at the track. I have a Raptor shift light in mine that is wired right into the computer harness, and I have it set at 6200.
I found out that my factory tach is about 900 rpms off, in that it reads higher than the actual RPM.
With the 4# Metco lower, Mike T's Superchip, and an after market filter I have been able to go 11.95 @ 117.
Tell your friend I have a brand new set of Nitto Extreme drags that I will sell him for $200.00. ( 275x40x17)

Do you any pics of that shift light?
Where did you get yours?
I've been looking for one for my 03 Mach 1

Thanks,
Bruce

Do a search for RaptorPerformance.com on either Yahoo, or which ever server you use. You can buy directly from them.
It is a great little mod that installs in about 15 minutes with only 3 wires. They provide great installation instructions also.
Well worth the $75.

Great driven' Chris. I take for grannit how easy it is to get the Lightning down the 1/4. I know we have to worry about launch and traction, but after that, you sit there and enjoy the ride. It just seems like your sitting there, and sitting there and sitting there. (I do at least running 12's) I may not if I was running 10's... Anyway in the 6 speed, your at least thinking about shift points and your shifting down the track at least into 4th right? You have to worry a little more about launch in the Cobra than the Lightning I think... Those things are a biatch to launch aren't they? Do you know what your 60 foot time was during that 12 second run? Again, good driving man and congrats on the 12.30 in the truck.

I have a Cobra as well and it is a hand full at WOT. It takes a little practice to get it right, but when you do you will find most of your competors in the rear view mirror.
