Got my oil changed for only $12.00!!
Got my oil changed for only $12.00!!
My service tech said that if I supplied the Mobil 1 (5w-30w) they would do the rest. I figured they would charge more than that. Anyhow for the few bucks it cost me to have it done, well, it just wasn't worth it to crawl under and then properly dispose of the oil.
Also if the warrenty issue ever comes up with using Mobil one, it sure won't hurt to the work order. Boy I can't enunciate tonight, too much halloween candy.

J/K...it really is only a 15 minute job, and all of the locar auto parts stores take the old oil back.
The lightning is very very easy to change the oil on. Also, auto zone around here takes the oil for free.
Do it yourself brother! You'll stay more in tune with the real condition of your drivetrain. I can't say how many times (on other vehicles) that I've found small leaks in other areas because I was under there myself. Things most techs would have never pointed out or cared about.
Just my 2 cents, WOT

While I do all my own work, I do get my oil changed by Walmart or a Dealer. I use Roayl Purple and supply my own filter, its just not worth the hassle of dealing with Old Oil disposal. Walmart charges $10 plus I get the truck vacuum'd and a bug juice refill.

I'd like to think when MaxTorque02 talks about "curbside recycling" he is talking about a program that many municipalities have now a days where you leave the oil in a sealed container on the curb and the city/town/county picks it up and it goes to a recycle program. You see this more often these days especially on the West Coast where many people are very environmentally conscious. FACT IS whether the State is environmentally conscious or not, all states I believe now, have stiff laws/fines for just dumping oil, etc. on to the ground, in drains, etc.. As a young guy I always dumped oil into say a woodchuck hole, on a dirt road, etc.. Today, I would not do such a thing as I know that dumped oil will ultimately get into someones well, groundwater, creek, lake and more. Does damage that is pretty much non-repairable. Anyway, in most every State any business that sells oil also has to take back the dirty oil. Places like Jiffy Lube, Fast Lube and such always take it back no questions asked.. I do the right thing!..... even though it at times is a pain.... was so much easier to drain straight to the ground.

SO I should stop mixing it with gasoline and dumping it in the river behind my house and throw a match on it????
I figure all the pollutants burn up!
best of both worlds, it's free and since the pollutant burns up it is environmentally safe!
Sometimes I wish that I would have kept my mouth shut.
I have done so many oil changes in my life that I don't care to do another. Yes we also have curbside recycling and the only leaks I am concerned about are the ones that drip on the ground, of which I would notice, since my truck is parked inside and the garage floor is painted.
I can understand changing the oil yourself to save some money or as a teaching tool for your child, but for that $12.00 I get the truck vacuumed, washed ( I decline that though) and a visual inspection for leaks etc, plus all the fluids topped off, so if you think thats a waste of money or time, well I guess that's your opinion and you are entitled to it.
Or maybe I should listen to Maxtorque02 and leave the oil in for a long time. The following is what he said a couple weeks ago.
"Why would you spend that amount of money on Amsoil just to throw it down the drain well before the life of the oil is even close to being used up? If anything, pull the filter and replace it and then top off your oil. You could easily bypass one or two oil changes. If you want to change every 3,000 miles, then use a quality dino oil like Chevron or Castrol. Even those oils will perform up to 5,000 miles in normal conditions. To many people buy into the Amsoil or synthetic oil stories and then don't even take advantage of it. Synthetics will perform better in extreme rpm or high heat situations (or extreme cold) which the Lightning does not fall into that category. Oil related failures are extremely rare in todays engines."
So Maxtorque02 if oil is so easy to change why don't you do it more often?
Whatever, like I said to each his own. Good day.

I don't know what your problem is, but this isn't the first time you have flamed me. If you don't want others opinions then don't start a post. My post was friendly and I said nothing negative towards you and then you turn around and attack me. *** u!

I do agree with one thing you said. You should keep your mouth shut!
