raining ash
Cough,cough.............cough!
The last several days in San Diego have been one of the most surreal events that I have ever experienced. The amount of ash and smoke raining down has been staggering. An Air Quality Index (AQI) of 100 usually corresponds to the maximum federal standard for that pollutant being less than 2.5 microns in size. When values are above 100, air quality is considered unhealthy. On a normal day the Air Quality Index (AQI) for particulate matter pollution in San Diego ranges from 40-60 for particulate matter less than 2.5 microns in size. Currently we are seeing numbers in the 320 range for particulate matter less than 2.5 microns in size per cubic meter. It’s like smoking two packs of cigarettes a day.
With all this ash and smoke raining down on my Lighting how can I protect the paint from getting attacked by the ash? I’ve been trying to wash it off with some water but we have been warned to conserved water at this point, plus I don’t want to spend time a lot of time outside. A car cover would keep the ash off, but would it harm the paint if any ash got caught underneath. As soon as the ash comes of it's only seconds before ash gets back on the paint. I know some ash would be cuaght underneath, andI'm not sure when I'll have the opportunity to wash it back off.

yea i hear ya broa, i went back home this weekend to visit my parents in LA and it was raining ash there too, there isnt much you can do about it, garage ure truck but ash is still gonna get on it, this happen to me earlier this year, i had the car in the garage but the ash still got in there and all over the paint, i would think the ash is cool enough to were its not gonna harm ure paint, i think its like having dust on the paint, just wait till it clears up, should be a while, then give her a good wash. Dang, so many fires everywhere this week in cali.
what is the PH level of Ash mixed with water?
Go to a Swimming pool store, spend $2 and buy a testing kit (little strip you put in the water that changes color)
Put some ash in a cup of water and test to see if there is any acidic level.
If not, then I wouldn't worry about it too much.
If Yes, then I'd park indoors

Word of caution. That ash can be very abrasive. Make sure you rinse the truck really well before you wash it and use a good, high quality soap to help with lubricity. If not done properly, it can leave all sorts of micro scratches all over your truck. When Mt. St. Helens blew its top several years ago, we had to contend with ash fallout and it wasn't fun. Good luck down there and stay safe.

ASH BIG TIME HERE....
for days now.
I'm in Westwood and the smoke here has been unreal. We're getting smoke and ash from the Simi Hills Fire to the North West and the Lake Arrowhead / Big Bear Fire to the North East and even the San Diego Fire to the South. A couple of days here it was thicker than fog and it really stinks.
I've lived in LA for almost 39 years now and never seen fires this bad.

I live in El Cajon Ca. the last couple of days has been miserable but it is finally clearing up. We had the motorhome packed up and ready. The news said 500,000acres were burned and about 500 houses
. I didnt think that the ash was harming the paint on my vehicles. I would like to now if it is harmful to the paint finish if anyone knows. Thanx
