Phenolic spacer thickness ?

I pulled off the Eaton for intercooler cleaning.... and figured I would port the blower and make a spacer while I am at it. How thick can I go with the spacer ?

Everyone seems to run 1/2 inch, ....

I assume it's only 1/2 inch because of installation clearance issues due to the fact that most people install it with the blower still on the motor.

If I install the blower/spacer/plenum as a single unit how thick can I make the spacer before I run into firewall clearance issues ?

Iam running a cowl hood, so height isn't a problem for me.
Why don't you put the blower and plenum ontop of the motor with a wad of clay (or something like that) and carefully close the hood to compress the "material" and then measure. Allow for clearance and thats the max. height you can go

Gator,

Thats not a bad idea. However my truck is in my garage and the blower is at the shop. I was just hoping for a nice easy answer so as to save myself the trouble of running back and forth.

Where do we run into clearance problems ? Firewall or Hood ?

I wasn't thinking of anything extreme, just like 3/4inch or 1 inch spacer if it would fit.

If it comes down to it I guess I will gather up the blower case and plenum and bring it all home and mock it up for clearance.

However if someone does have the anwer please feel free to save me some time.........

my bad, but if it helps you. I have enough room for another 1/2" spacer on mine, with the Cervini hood. But the problem I'll have is with the throttle cable bracket. Iam working on a stainless one

So Gator,

Your saying a 1 in spacer WILL clear the firewall ?

But your not sure if it will clear the stock hood ?

The only reason I was considering going thicker than 1/2 inch is cause I am making my own and everything just happens to be all apart right now. I wonder if the extra 1/2 inch would be worth it ?

Someone a while back was quoting flow bench numbers at 1/4 = 15 cfm, 1/2 =30 cfm.......... but he never said anything about cfm numbers when you go thicker than 1/2. I am just assuming the numbers will keep getting better....
