Red face Gas Tank Issue!!!!!

I would be willing to bet that alot of the "old Timers" (Like Gator ) already know this, but I just learned it the hard way.
So I thought I would pass it on for some of the less knowledgable like myself.

Ran my gas down to an 1/8th tank to get it as low as possible for the introduction of 104. I made a couple passes to bring it even lower. Both passes the truck fell flat for a split second around the 60ft and then suddenly picked up again and went on down the track.

I added about 6 gallons of 104 and the problem went away. Forgetting about this, I did the same darned thing the next week. I figured out what was happening this time.

Then yesterday at the track, another L owner was saying his truck seemed to be falling down just after his launch. We looked at his gage and he was running with an 1/8th tank to save weight. We added around 6-7 gallons and his problem went away.

The moral of the story is.....we need to have at least a quarter tank in these trucks to keep gas around the fuel pump during our launches.

Good info! That's somethng i didn't know. I always thought the less fuel the less weight. I have left the track before with the low fuel light on. Now I know better.

Unless you extend the fuel pickup further back into the tank

That's OK Gator, I posted this thread so I could get reminded of the issue in a week or so. Then I forgot I posted the thread. Now I have forgotten what the heck the thread is about.

What the heck was I doing before I started typing this response? Response to what? Oh crap...where did I put the keys? Keys to what? Wheres the garage? Do I have a garage?

I think it's an age thing.
