JDM Heat Exchanger

I'll be installing an Eaton M90S-Ported blower (AED Kit) on a Ford Crown Vic, the stock exchanger is a Perma-Cool 24k GVW tube/fin cooler!!!

I was told this is TOO small and that upgrading would be a great idea.

Should I go with the stock Lightning exchanger or the JDM exchanger or something else???

It's a 6 psi kit and the reservoir/degas bottle is smaller than a coke can.

Any advice would be appreciated.

If you can get a good price on a JDM unit it would be sick..even overkill. I think for that blower a stock lightning unit would be plenty. I'm sure you can get a good deal on someones old stocker kickin' around! Good luck! I'm jelous...I always wanted a hotrod vic!

Find a stock Lightning heat exchanger. It'll do the job well for you, and be cheaper than the beefed up JDM/Fluidyne unit.

Ok I just wanted to know what the Lightning pros thought...

The Vic I have uses a 2000 Ford 4.6L SOHC V8 (Romeo) w/ NPI heads.

It weighs 4200 lb in race ready configuration and is mated to a 4R70W. I have stock 3.55s in the back with a Torsen differential.

You think with a 6 psi Eaton M90S-Ported blower I would be more than Ok with a stock Lightning exchanger?

If you've ever seen the stock reservoir - you'd know its shrimpy.

Here's the site:

http://www.allenengine.com/cvinstall3.html

It's a bit of a read so just look at the pics. That reservoir is the metal can near the master cylinder reservoir w/ that radiator cap.

The stock exchanger is a PRM-1316 (24k GVW tube/fin Perma-Cool ATF cooler) - POS and Puny.

Could I use TWO stock Lightning Exchangers in series w/o worrying about too much restriction? The AED mechanical coolant pump isn't very large, I wanted to install a drag racing radiator but I think that's TOO much work for a little pump.

MetroPlex, While the bigger heat exchanger will help, you wont see a big difference in power if your intercooler isnt effiecent. I dont know if you have been to the TBird sites, but I would email a guy by the name of Mike Siska. He also goes by ECCDOC on the Corral, Mike has done alot of work with his AED Tbird and last I heard was will into the 11's on a daily driver. It has been a while since I last spoke to Mike, Things might have changed.

The intercooler is whatever that comes with the M90S-ported Eaton blower, I'm not sure how I could make it more efficient?

I'll talk to him, I know A-train who is friends with Mike.

Thanks
