Building up lower end in the lightning

I would like to build up the lower end of my lightning first then maybe port heads and supercharger. Right now the truck is in the shop. Any suggestions where to get lower end parts such as pistions, rings, studs, main bearing and rods. Thanks for any advice.

what is the main difference in that and have a built motor done by one of the tuners??? That is pretty cheap and the built motors are way more than that. What is the difference??? I could afford that. I cant afford a built motor. if i put that lower end package in, Could i run lots of boost, nitrous or a kenne bell without a problem with a good tune. Just curious because i am in the market for a built motor and just want to know what my options are.

the difference is that if you buy an already assembled "built" shortblock, you are also getting a new or refreshed block, crankshaft, etc. Also when purchasing a shortblock you are paying for balancing and machine work and LABOR etc.

if you just bought the bottom end kit, you'd save some on the overall price by reusing the existing block, crank, timing cover, etc from your L's current engine.

PSP, JL, and JDM all offer both engine internals and assembled engines.

I just prefer dealing with Sal and Lisa at PSP whenever I can. but I have bought stuff from most everybody.

PSP
JDM
JLP
REM
LFP
Outrageous Performance
Performance Autosport
Summit & Jegs
Factory Tech

you name it, it just depends on what parts you want or need and who offers them, and who you like to deal with.

yes, if you upgrade your internals (mainly rods and pistons) you should definately be able to increase the boost with a KB or Works or use lots of nitrous if you like. assuming of course that your motor is built correctly, and you have a safe tune. NOTHING IS BULLET-PROOF.

later,
chris

blown318,

Yeah...but I don't think they make many vests that will stop a .50 cal...it all depends on what you are willing to throw at it!

Chris by that did you mean when you purchase a bult short block for $3,500 along with the balancing and machine work you get the labor of putting the internals into the block? I just want to clarify that compared to the labor putting the block into the motor...
I am also thinking about built motor in the future so I wanted to check this thread out. Like you said, if you just get internals, you can use your own block, crank, and timing cover... But you have to pay someone to install all the internals into your motor. (someone who you can trust...)
But in my case, I have to pay someone either way. Wheather I spend $1,875 on a lower end package, or $3,500 on a built block, I've got to have it installed.
Is there an option to bring my truck to a tuner and have them pull
my motor and install the lower end package and use my block, and crank and try to save as much as we can? I also am just looking for the best way to do this while keeping as much money in my pocket as I can.
Thanks, Shane

Most tuners do a swap. Their price is what you pay for them to give you an already built shortblock, and you to give them your core.

The $3,500 most tuners charge for shortblocks is with a trade in of your core i know but its not installed for $3500 right...

I wish it was 3500 for motor and install, I believe you would see a LOT more built motors!!!!!!!!!!!!

3500 is JUST motor (shortblock, no heads, no accessories, nothing but a block, crank, rods, and pistons!!!!)

whats the average tuner charge for install of a built short block? $1,000-$2,000?
