What size amp do I need?

I said screw it with Ebay for a sub and ordered an Infinity Perfect 10 VQ from Sound Domain. They had an out of box one for what I thought was a great price. Anyhow what size of amp will I need to drive one ten inch sub? Do I need an amp like a JL 500/1 or will a 250/1 or is it 300/1 be sufficient?

I plan on building my own inclosure. At this point I was going to keep it small (no porting). Like I've said before I am not looking for a boom truck, just a little bit of low end.

I don't have to have a JL, but those were the two that I was looking at. Thanks again.

Honestly, you want to have enough watts to actually over drive the woofers, then you kick the amp down to just below that "kill" point and you will have the max sound output for the speaker

Thanks for the advice. Car audio is new for me. At home however I use two SVS subwoofers that are tuned down to 16hz and self powered with 525 watt BASH amps. The things stand 39"s tall and about 14"s round. The first one barely got past the wife, the second, well I got to know the couch farely well so the truck, I'll let you know. I guess that I do have a bedrug though.

Anyhow thanks for the advice.

I'm using a 500/1 on my 1 10". The 250/1 just isn't quite enough in my opinion. Make sure the rest of your system is up for that output though or the image will sound like crap with that much sub output.
