new Tuff Truck rules for 2004
new Tuff Truck rules for 2004
George Klass
FFW Staff
I have just been informed that the Ford Tuff (new spelling for 2004) Truck Class rules will be changed to include the following.
The new T/T class will be restricted to 1997 and later F-Series Pick-up trucks and Generation I and Generation II Lightning's only. We realize that some of you who have participated in the past with other year/type trucks will be impacted, however the sponsors requirements must come first.
Was posted here.
click the link carefully, some kinda pissed people posting there.

Hmm, even as a Gen1 owner I don't like the change. There is a lot of competition from the older trucks, and non F-series (ie, Randy Morrison's Ranger). Now it just seems like a Lightning/new model class. Less trucks with lots of work and time to go fast, and more that were factory made fast.
It's funny to see that **** is just as well loved there

I think it's great. I realize that it sucks for the FEW guys with non latemodel or non L trucks, but frankly, IMHO they were ringers anyway.
I think that this rule will make the class more competitive and fun to watch. no more 13.50 Lightning versus 9 second '78 Fseries or '87 Ranger.
Good Call FFW!
I know I'll be more likely to travel for a Fun Ford event to participate in a Lightning/Harley race instead of wasting a weekend watching Lupe (forgot his last name devilla?) or Randy Morrison dominate the class with something that you'd never see on the street.
just my .02
I always prefer the "street" type classes though, I enjoy watching cars (and trucks) race that you can associate with vehicles you see on the road everyday. I've only been to one big NHRA national event, and while it was cool and the speed and power were impressive, I still find it hard to get into.
sorry, getting off track.
I think this rule change will make the class much more fun to watch and to participate in.

I don't see what the problem is. JDM sponsers the TT class and he should be allowed to make up some of the rules. Maybe there should be a Lightning truck class and all the other guys can find a new sponser...I feel that this is a good thing. I think more Lightnings will show up to these events and their owners will have a better chance at winning something.
What was stopping more Lightnings from showing up before? easter, what you're saying is true, but it can also be read as "Well, we're going to eliminate all of the winners, so that the runner-ups have a chance to win... without having to drive any better." It's a sport, a competition, whoever runs it best wins. Instead, racers who have been in the class for years are now turned away with nowhere to immediately go.
Now that I've read through the thread, and realized that JDM owns the class, I guess I'll have to disclaimer my comments to avoid bashers. This isn't a gripe against JDM, or his company. It's support for the Rangers, as a previous owner, a 4-year member of RangerPowerSports, and lover of them small trucks.

I'm not a "team JDM" member by any stretch of the imagination, but if he is the sponser he should be able to do whatever he wants to the class as long as FFW approves it. Let the rangers of the world unit to create their own class.
What happens when people start showing up with twin turbo 351's in their Lightnings?

Since JDM Engineering took over the Fun Ford Weekend "Truck Class" over two years ago we have made a lot of changes. Before we took over the class the average truck count was about 10 trucks for each event. They worked off a .400 pro tree like the rest of the Fun Ford showdown classes as it was designed towards more serious racers and purpose built bracket vehicles. But, their truck count was low. So, I decided that the first rule change was to be a .500 sportsman tree which we all race on our test and tune days and that is what we are use to. Now, there is a whole new list of rule changes coming out because our class "Tuff Truck" has become Fun Ford Weekend's number one showdown class because of our customers and F-150 enthusiasts, we had gained 187 new members this year which is listed on the Fun Ford Weekend site. NMRA had a total of 53 members this year. Because of our huge success Ford Motor Company jumped aboard with us and gave us two give away trucks this year which happened to be two brand new F-150's. This is what it is, its Fun Ford Weekend, this means if we are in your town you can come and race and have a chance to win at that event because there will be no purpose built bracket vehicles in that class. It will be F-series, Lightnings, and Harley Davidsons with no more or no less modifications than you have. Tomorrow I will post a list of national champions that were a result of our rule changes for the 2003 season. There are a few members on this board that won these national events because of my rule changes.

i think it would be cool to have multiple truck classes, one for the really built up bracket machines, and one for the masses, like tuff truck is now. I like the direction FFW is going with Tuff truck at this point.

They feel that you changed the rules to give an advantage to Lightning,Harley,F150 owners who previously werent racers or in their minds "True racers" running a .400 tree. That is their whole beef with the changes you have made.
Its your class, you pay for it, you pay the winners, so I say do whatever the hell you want and have fun doing it.
If the other people that are pissed want to do something, let them find a sponsor and have another class made specifically for them.
How about a heads up class Jim? That would be really cool with all the really fast Lightnings out there now.
TUFF TRUCK?
