Engine Donation

Wish it was donated to me but, NOT!

My wife(Sandi) works at the local University in an Automotive Research and Development program called Auto21
and Ford donated the 5.4 S/C engine to the shop for the students to play with.
From the looks of the engine, it has a black blower and plenum, no SVT marking on the S/C casing, so I am thinking this was probably for an HD F150. It has a March 03 build date. Should have checked the size of the blower snout pulley.
What I need to do now is convince them that it would be a great learning experience to swap heads with me. Hehe!

Heres a couple of pics.

So THAT'S where that little hole in the bottom of the intake (filled with oil) goes! ...and where that d@mn line T's off to from the passenger side PCV valve...

Line highlighted in yellow. Drain hole circled.

The bottom of the intake, just under the intercooler. Note the puddle of oil and the opening:

interesting...

That is really interesting indeed. It certainly shows ford knows the oil issue and has a "fix" to let the oil run back down into the case. Why not change the oil capture kits to not capture, but T into the return line instead?

Maple syrup, french toast, hockey and our 5.4 SC 330 cu.in. kick butt power plant - I knew there was a reason I liked Canadians! (well besides being one)

Great shots, Dave - is that University of Windsor? Spent many a night casing skirt and avoid classes in the late eighties there.

D-Day

Those heads are huge!

I didnt know our heads were that big...

Man if I had my motor out of my truck like that I couldnt even imagine the things I'd do...
Everything would be so much easier to install. The spacer would go right on. Long tubes would be a brease. Plugs and blower swap wouldn't be that bad. The main thing that cought my eye was the stock manifold and how easy long tubes would be to just swap out while the motor is out... Thanks for the pics, Shane
