Differences in Rancho-style traction bars?
Differences in Rancho-style traction bars?
I know that JDM, LFP, and JL sell these types of traction bars; but what are the differences between them? JL's seem to place the bar farther away from the frame and axle. This seems ideal for a lowered truck with Bassani. But it also would seem to make ground clearance pretty low. Does anyone have any actual measurements for each kit?
Thanks,
Edward

I've got Cal-traks with Hotchkiss -2" lowering leafs (from Mark @ LFP) and don't have any issues with exhaust(JDM Silver Bullet) or ground clearance. They are adjustable, make a noticeable traction difference and were easy to install.
My only b!tch is the squeeky poly bushings that came with the Hotchkiss springs...drives me up the fricken wall. I can't drive with my slider open, or w/o the stereo on deafening mode. The front leaf bushings are replaced with the Cal-track aluminum bushing.
Anyway- Cal Traks reputation speaks for itself.

What Edward and I would both like to know is....how low does the front bracket hang down below the frame with other bars (JDM, and JL's). I have the LFP bars and with the Roush lowering kit the front brkt. hangs down to about 6-8 inches above the ground (I did not measure it but that's close). I'm not real happy about this but maybe they are all this way. I think I'm going to remove the front brkt. and the bars (and leave the rear brkts. on) and only install them when I'm doing a track event. I really do not need them on the street and they are real easy to take on and off .

The front Cal-trak bracket hangs about 5-1/2" to the bottom of the bracket from the bottom of the frame rail. It hangs about 2" below the leafspring perch as the Cal-trak mounts become part of of the perch itself.
Cat-tracks are way shorter than the lift style or slapper style so ground clearence isn't an issue. I have a 31" wheel tire combo and the front bracket is 12" above the ground and so close to the tire that you'd never be able to hit anything.
