Question Anyone installed a larger fuel tank on their L??

Has anyone ever installed a larger than stock fuel tank? I have (on an 03) a 25 gallon tank. I think a good mod would be to up the fuelage to like 30? I know its more weight when full, but cant be more than a second passenger. Maybe 35? Is there even room for a larger tank? I also wonder what that would cost for the tank and install...anyone?

oh im just a dork like that. i figured (or guess i should say it was the lack of figuring that posed the question) if it was cost-effictive enough, maybe gettin 5-10 more gallons would prove beneficial on highway trips. my father put in a larger tank in his old 99 superduty 350. i believe it was a 45 or 50 gallon tank. the truck had the 7.3d in it, so it really traveled well on the highway. i do my fair share of highway travel, just thought i could figure a way to increase my range.

If you want to increase your range, try keeping your foot out of the pedal.

I know its hard because I just got a DSG L today. I can finally join the party.

I think all f150's are designed to be able to accomodate dual tank, however no promises, but something to look into. You could always just grab a good 5 gallon gas can

Even if you think that a bigger gas tank would save gas for driving a bit more consitantly to the gas station, noodle this one. A gallon of gas is about 8.5 pounds. So that extra 10 gallons is about 85 pounds!.

So the extra weight you engine would be hauling would X out the gas stops.

And if you bought the L for gas mileage, you bought the wrong damn vehicle.

hmmm, you think 85 lbs is gonna make much of a difference on a 4800 lb vehicle? producing more than 400 ft lbs of torque? I doubt it.

Doesnt seem like a question of milage, just conviniece. If i could buy all my gas for a year up front and carry around a huge 500 gallon tank i would without question.

I think you're limited to around 400 miles per tank on the highway once it's broke in. (Your mileage may vary). That's about 5 hrs of driving anyway, so it's time to scrub the bugs off the windshield, and get a cold soda and snickers anyway.

spork, ill take your comment as a joke. no where in my post did it say anything about "better mileage". i was curious as to extending the range. i would hope you would give me enough credit as to not think i would just waltz into a ford dealship and purchase a new lightning on the premise that i will save money with long life tires and good fuel economy.. lol

There are companies that make a bigger tank .But to the best of my knowledge OEM does not.and if they did you would have to reprogram the OBD because at each start up [if the guage reading is between 1/4 and 3/4] it pressurizes the tank to check for leaks and the comp is calibrated to know how long it takes to build up a fixed psi for the guage reading. That is why if you fill up while the truck is running it can turn on the ck engine lite.Stan
