How Accurate Is Stock Tach?

I swear sometimes that stock tach in the dash reads past 6000 rpm's before it shifts.

How accurate it is?

It seems when in park, if i gun it, I can hear the RPMs go up, then top out and start coming down before the Tach hits the highest point.

I don't think it is too accurate.

I didi the odometer test and it was close, but at high RPM's it is difficult to compare the odometer tach with the tach gauge in the dash.

for those who haven't a clue what I am takling about

At the Dyno, we correlated the digital and the Dyno and
they were RTFO ... Don't know how to check the sweep
one. You would almost need a steady state to check it,
my foot's just not that good.

Since its a digital signal, I would say it dead nuts on. Its not like the older tachs that went off a ground signal.

Mine shifts @6000 at the track too.....almost made a poopie in my pants the first time

I called JDM and they said that the stock Tach's can be roughly 200-300 rpms off......hope that helps!

it's a scary sight when you look down and see 6000 R's

It'sy understanding that the digital tach readout (somehere posted how to read that, I can never remember) is dead on, it fires off of one of the plug wires, so it would have to be, you'd think. The sweep is put on by hand somewhere, so I would guess it's not too accurate, but would be consistently off the same amount, it seems to me.
