Any ill effects running 100oct all the time?

Well im sick of the truck pinging and trying to get it tuned. This CA gas sucks. Ive started adding about 5-10 gallons of 76 100oct per tank and it seems to take care of my pining. Is there any problems with running a 100/91 mix all the time? I have heard that the dye in race gas will clog up the filter quicker then regular, but thats no biggy, i can just change the filter every 3k miles when I do the oil. So again, any thing wrong with running 100/91 mix all the time????

The only ill effect I know of is on the wallet. It will be skinnier than with the 92 octane. I have been mixing toluene and 104 with the crappy 90 octane I get at our local stations. I try to keep it around 95 and above. The L definately runs better.

You'll go through fuel filters quicker, as the face fuel is harder on the "paper" in it.

I wonder what the higher concentration does to the fuel lines and injectors since it leaves the plugs with a reddish hue??

...Also, the higher octane race gas burns slower so you may get a semi-rough idle and the truck may "load up" if just cruising for awhile.

Is your truck pinging under light loads or at WOT? If it is pinging at WOT only get an alcohol injection kit. It really works and will cost less in the long run.
I'll be in the bay area this afternoon. If you see a speeding rental car in the left lane please merge right.

Why aren't you at E-town yet waiting for the track to dry?

If you are running leaded race gas, you could eventually have problems with your cats, especially at the percentage you are running. Unleaded racing fuel should be available, but it's typically more money than the leaded racing fuel. Running an 30%- 50% solution of race gas is definitely going to take a hit on the wallet. You might want to hook up with one of the local suppliers and check and see what a 55 gallon drum would cost. What are you paying for the 100 octane 76 race gas now?

I was wondering the same thing also. There is a Union 76 by my house that has a pump with 100oct. I was thinking about puttiing in a couple gallons, i'll have to check if it's leaded or unleaded.

If its leaded gas, your cats will clog and O2 sensors also take a dump.

Its not leaded, unleaded 76 100 Cool Blue.
It costs 4.19/Gal and hasent raised in 6 months.
Since 91 is already around 2.20 adding about 10gal of 100 wont be too much more money.
It mostly pings at tip in so alcohol injection wouldnt be for me i dont think.
Newbie Q here - what does Load Up mean???

easterisland,
you should come to the NorCal SVTOA meet today. Serramonte ford in Colma...

loading up, refers to when an engine cylinders start filling with fuel at a rate that will saturate your plug and fill it with more fuel than it can efficiently burn...Ex rough idle, black smoke upon acceleration, popping sound ...

i have the same problem, either take out timing, or have sal enable the knock sensor, i know it can be a little power robbing, but i rather be safe then sorry, or just pay for the 100 octane.

w/92 octane, chip set for 91

1. eco, no ping
2. street, ping at tip in
3. race, no ping with 100 octane
4.kill switch, no ping at all haha

You might want to play with your formula also. You may not need that much racing gas and/or you might be able to get by with regular unleaded and racing gas. As it stands now, you're paying over $3.00 gallon for gas, which to me is way to much to pay for gas for a street driven truck. I would think you should be able to get it chipped and tuned to run on cheaper fuel and still have good power.
