Kenne Bell questions??

Sorry, I sold the L about a year and a half ago and think I'm ready for another...

1. What is the cost?
2. Labor cost?
3. What other parts are "needed" on an otherwise stock vehicle?

I think that's it for now. I'm still trying to talk myself OUT of buying another "money pit". Doesn't help hanging out here!!!

$3k (that will include your choice of an upper pulley, I went with a 3.25 or 2lbs)

2-4 hours labor x the labor rate

or, do it yourself (I did the second time)

re: other parts - that could be endless, personally I would recommend new pulleys to take advantage of your new efficiency and power potential, a good chip and tune is a must, new plugs - I personally like the Beru silverstone S1K's, improved air filter preferably one that draws outside air (JLP has a great one), an oil separator and a single blade throttle body at minimum.

Depending on your boost level you will eventually need to look at a free flowing exhaust, I really like the set up I bought at REM (dynatech long tubes, single high flow cats and a single Magna flow cat back).

And what the he!! it's only money.................... but it sure is fun, can't put a price on that.

Good Luck

I'd also recommend install dual 255lph pumps. With a stock block I doubt you would need to buy larger injectors. Below is my suggestions:

KB Supercharger with 3.25 upper- $3000
Plugs: Denso IT20-22's depending on boost. $90
Dual 255lph pumps $225
Two program chip: One side really, really safe...the other $375$aggresive street(I'd skip an all out race program- you won't need to milk the extra power with the KB)
JLP Ram Air. $285.00

Labor: Few hours labor or do it yourself.
I'd leave the upper at 3.25 and change lowers so you don't have belt slip issues.

How well would a stock block with 255lph pumps hold up with a KB blower??

I run a 6# lower pulley and I swap out 3.00", 3.25", and 3.50" upper pulleys while using the same gatorback belt with no belt slippage.

That is a good suggestion re the pumps, 99svtlightning, that's exactly what I did.

SVT-sinister

I have a stock block, I am pushing 16lbs, and according to two of my tuners I have maxed the stock injectors. My last dyno was 496/562 (and these numbers were converted to Mustang dyno numbers for comparison to a previous tune).

According to the pros, I am pushing it, but they are pretty confident my stock block should hold up fine. Prior to buying my pulleys I asked the current KB owners on this form how far they felt I could push boost with a stock block and the majority said 16 lbs.

Here's an interest thought, my tuner Willie told me that I could do one of two things to see low 500's in hp - either lower the boost or buy larger injectors. I haven't done either, because quite frankly I am happer that a pig is ***** with my set up currently.

If you change pumps, shouldn't you also upgrade the 42lb injectors to 50lb or even 55lb injectors?

Preferably yes, but if you stay at or are under 16lbs of boost you can still get a pretty good tune with the stock injectors, like I have. My tune is set with 14 degrees timing and out of the gate my a/f is in the 14's, but it very quickly drops and levels at 12.1.

One of the comments Willie made was "if you go to larger injectors you will undoubtedly increase hp considerably and push myself out of the so called safe zone with a stock block". So I took that to heart and decided to leave my L where she is for now.

Right now i have the 4lb pully and my boost gauge autometer boost gauge goes to about 12lb...What if i get the KB and keep it at 12lbs. Will i still make more power? Wouldnt that be alot safer?

LOL,

saleensc

I am with ya brother, I think I felt 70's this morning, calling for high 80's by noon.

God grant me patience, and I want it RIGHT NOW!

SVT-Sinister

There is a great article in "Truckin", October 2002 about the KB, I think you could get into the article on their web sight. Definite read if you are thinking about a KB.

You will make more power due to the twin-screw and very simply the greater efficiency, no doubt about that. I am not certain you will alter your safety aspect?

One word of advice - in my humble opinion the KB is fully realized at high boost levels, even my 16 lbs is just breaking into the real benefits of the twin screw. Our fellow L brothers who are up in the 20 plus boost are getting the real bang for the buck. It is a lot of money to lay out if you are going to stay in the low boost ranges (still awesome power, don't get me wrong). Look at all the L's on our form that are making great power with the stock eaton. I am eventually building a race long block, so I will be able to fully take advantage of my KB- just food for thought.
