Do I need an electric fan and water pump to reach 400/500 with my current mods?

Save your money. Trap speed is a more reliable indicator of HP than even a rear wheel dyno.

Save your $$ on the "Cobra" pump. Stay with the stocker.

I may take you up on your offer and head out to the track this Friday night. We'll see if I can get off work. What is a good trap speed to be at to be around 400 horse at the wheels? My last run of 12.6 was @ 107 mph.

the cobra pump might help a little but its mostly for the looks of not having the big shaft from the clutch fan sticking out afterwards. Which I'm sure could just have it modified but for 100 bucks why not just get another one thats all done up already you know. I rode without one for awhile when they didn't have them and it was fine.

thats not exactly true, a dyno is a tool designed to measure hp,

now, you do have the mustang dyno's which will give "lower" #'s but are more real world as they are load bearing and are better for tuning

yup

Shane, with your mods and times, you are definetely in the 400/500 club.

My 2000 dynod at 416 rwhp and 522 ftlbs. I have a 4lb lower, filter, chip, t/b, e fan and cobra pump. My first pull was 386, was running so rich, didn't register. Jim spent the better part of the day dyno tunning and running it on the street to get my number, and i'm still running in the 11-11.2 a/f, which is more than safe, but i was happy where it was.

My best run is in my sig, I just can't get any damn traction!!!! 60's with a 1.91+. If i get then down to the 1.7's where they should be, i should be in the 12.5-12.6 range where I want and hope to be. Good luck

Thanks tallimeca. I appreciate the advise. I have always followed you and your truck. Do you remember a year ago now every other day I would ask you if I was close to running a 12? (I wanted a 12.99 so bad!) You would always say you should be there...
I've got similar mods and times as you. I also trap at 106-107 with the 4#er. I haven't had a new best et with the 2.80 upper in good weather yet. I may be able to get out Friday and try to get my 60 foots down with the new et streets. So with a good 60 foot and a little higher mph I am hoping for a 12.4 @108 or so. Wish me luck.

Thx

How have you been Paul? I haven't heard from you in a while. How is the truck? I may be going out to us41 this friday, any chance you can make it? I won't get there till around 6 or so. But they are open till around till about 10 for test and tune. Any chance you can make it? I am taking my truck to Midwest Hot Rod off 126th in Plainfield. They got a dyno over the summer and I have yet to get this thing on it. I am going to try to run friday and see where my trap speed is, and go from there. Let me know, thanks, Shane

Did you find out approx what hp at what trap speed? Check my trap below and I just had the truck dyno'd. If I could hook up I might have a shot at 12's.

Shane,
I haven't really had much time to race the truck this yr. I have been looking for investment properties and trying to educate myself about this business so I can start doing some rehabs. It takes a good amount of time to put together a team you can trust and i am almost there. The only mod I did this summer was the phenolic spacer. I just picked up my winter beater so She will be taking a nap very soon. I can't make it to the track on Friday unfortunately. I don't get home until about 6:30. By the time I make it out there it would be a waste. I did want to get a few more runs before I put it away. I'll have to shoot for a sat or Sun though. Let me know when you plan to dyno. Good luck Friday, hopefully you will have a nice cool day

Exclamation supporting statement to above assertion.

Shane,

The difference is the impeller design. The "cobra' unit's is smaller, has a ring surrounding the blades, is less efficient IMHO, and, as 'Killa mentioned, doesn't have the snout for the fan.

Some haven't had problems with the "Cobra" hardware. Whether or not they are aware and/or closely monitor temperatures is their responsibility.

The 'cobra' pump was a contributing factor in my truck running above acceptable temperatures (read: HOT) in stop and go traffic. Engine and cylinder head temps verified via AutoTap on a regular basis and in varying weather conditions.

In conclusion and as previosly, save your money on the water pump.

Just my .02

Bob
