5.4 Pistons Question

Ar ethe 5.4 and 4.6 pistons interchangable. I am looking for a set of 17cc dish pistons for my 2001 L and see mostly 4.6 pistons listed.

The 5.4 and the 4.6 use the same piston and yes they are interchangeable. What makes a 5.4 is the taller deck height and longer stroke.

The 4.6 and 5.4 pistons are interchangeable. I got JE 4.6L 17cc dish pistons in my motor.

I have been told by Pro Power today that the 4.6 17cc dish piston is the one to use in the 5.4 Lightning. It does have a different compression height but that is what Ford wanted in the L with the blower. My machine shop ordered the JE's today.

The pistons are the same piece for the 4.6(2v) and 5.4. Ford gets the different compression from the 5.4s piston being .117 in the hole.

Sal,

Using a 17cc piston and assuming the stock head gasket what compression ratio will you have in the Lightning?
