New 3-Valve F150 Heads on a 03 Lightning?

I was reading an article out of my recent issue of 5.0 and they talked about how the new 3valve heads out of the new f150 will bolt on to a 4.6. They talked about how the heads are much improved and should gain a lot of power on a 4.6. Well if thats the case, I would think it would bolt up to a 03 lightning and the gains should be huge?

Is there any companies that have tried it yet? Or have anyone heard about this?

Chevrolet tried for nothing with thier Dominion 4 valve heads. This also never took off.

Here are some of the inherent problems with "bolting" up the new 3 valve heads on the current Lightning.

Completely different intake ports hence necessity for a custom lower inatke to adapt factory blower.

Completely different exhaust ports. Needs custom headers.

All new cam covers.

Timing chain cover is also new.

Plus a whole bunch of details that would need to be addressed like the variable cam timing for example. Looks to me like an ambitious task.

I'd just wait for the new Lightning.

The new motor looks tough...

I'm wondering if the 2004 Lightning's will have the 3 valve heads with the older (2003) body style?

Something to ponder about....

Very very unlikely, like somebody above pointed out the heads are not the only thing that would need to be different. The new heads would also mean a increase in power and Ford has said the 04 will have no increases over the 03.

although it does sound neat, i dont think it would be worth the money, i think you probably be more happy with ported heads and cam, or a 4 valve swap (which is still pricey as nuts). variable cam timing isnt that neato to me. just kinda like a vtech for fords. nevertheless nifty though. also looks like th ford engineers pulled their head out of their asses and moved the coil packs. i wonder how many threads these heads have?

WE @ JLP have had several 2004 lightning's here at the shop they still have the 2 valve heads. 1 thing for sure ford really changed the *Tuning* maps a ton! but we did manage to get the tuning down.. The revolution software is really impressive.. JL

Just curious here Johnny, and I don't mean to be rude with this, but how do you have 2004's already? I didn't know that Ford had even started their new production run yet. In any case though, you must be one of the first to get one.
