Thumbs up Oil Separator success

Installed the oil separator on my 03 and drove it 20 miles to and from work yesterday. When I returned I checked and it already had a tablespoon amount of oil in it. It's hard to believe Ford doesn't do something about this at the factory.

I've also read something about the PVC line from the Drivers valve cover to the intake tube and a Swanson (?) device. What's the deal on this?

Over the last couple of months I have read through the archives in relation to the oil in the throttle body here and on other L related website. After lots of research it seems that many feel the use of oil breather caps, changing PVC, blocking tubes, etc. may in not be the way to go or at least they are questionable quite possibly problematic ways to go. There are those arguing for these "fixes" but also many offering viable reasons to stay clear of such fixes. The only negative things posted about the Oil Separator was that some did not like the way it looked and it has to be emptied occasionally. Many reported they tried all the "fixes" and their Oil Separator was still catching oil even with the fixes installed. Hmmmmm........ Anyway, in the end I opted to go with an Oil Separator as it catchs oil but has no other impact on the stock set-up. Personally, I do not think that it is that unsightly and well, it does the job without altering the stock layout thought out by Ford engineers. In closing, desired result is to catch the oil and the Oil Separator does that!

Should mention that IF you have the REM Oil Separator the best way to get the accumulated oil out of the plastic catch container is to actually unscrew the clear plastic catch container from the Oil Separator and empty it. IF you use the little on/off spigot/valve on the bottom of the container you will possibly see in a short time that the on/off spigot/valve may very well start to seep oil. I spoke with REM who recommended emptying the way I suggest.

Billarf - Thanks for the tip. I was wondering about that. I don't think the separator looks that bad. I put the foam insulator cover back over the tubing and it doesn't really stand out back there.

Glad to offer the tip! I'm sure it is a tip that in the long run will prevent problems. That little o-ring on the on/off spigot/valve would take only just so many on - offs before it quit and then seepage would be the end result.

Well I just went through the grueling task of removing the charger, intercooler and manifold to clean all the oil up and it is safe to say that the REM oil separator that I have did not eliminate all the oil. It removed most of it but not all. All though my intake boot, throttle body and the front part of the intake plenum was dry, the back of the intake plenum, the entrance and exit of the supercharger were quite wet. So I might have to go with the swanson kit to where it blocks the line.........

Can someone explain what the Swanson PVC line kit is and what it does. It was my understanding it mounts on the drivers side PVC hose but I'm not sure.

Thanks

Swanson kir

Mounts on the passenger side. Stops the crankcase from being pressurised. Picks up a few hp as well. Skip

Swanson kit

The only drawback is that the boost hits harder and your rear tires will not last as long. The plus is, boost is kept out of the crankcase, which forces oil into the intake. Oil in the intake is a very bad thing, because it causes detonation. Skip

OK, but how does it keep boost out of the crankcase?

As I understand it, boost gets into the crankase from piston blow-by.

Someone please explain...
