Supercharger noise w/6lb pulley

Hey guys!!!

I just added the 6lb pulley to my upgrades yesterday and ever since then, I have this whining noise coming form the blower even at lower rpm's. Is this due to the blower spinning faster now? It sounds kinda like a jet just driving around a "normal" speeds. It doesn't grind or anything, it's just a lot louder than before. I did change the belt, since the stock bet doesn't fit with the upgrade, too.

Thanks!!!!!

No.

Give a little more info..... does the sound increase with throttle increase???? Are you sure its coming from the Blower??, any other mods, how many miles........
Double check your belt install, and make sure all vacuum lines are connected

Mods:

Accufab Throttle body, C&L inlet pipe, 85mm MAF, Cold Air Kit, Flowmaster Cat Back System, Diablo Delta chip, 6lb crank pulley.

All mods were done prior to the pulley and the chip getting installed yesterday. Since then, the blower is a lot louder and sounds like a jet. This only happens at cruising speeds and lower rpm's. I can especially hear it in 1st gear, driving out of the parking lot or just crusing in the neighborhood at lower speeds. Any suggestions? No grinding noise or anything.

Thanks!

Depends on what kinda whining noise.

Yes you should be able to hear your blower more (an air intake sound). After all, you did make it spin faster.

Now if the sounds is a rattle, kinda like shaking rocks in a can, that could be a problem.

I know the exact sound you are talking about. Kind of a jet turbine type noise noticable when rpm's come down from 3k to 1k rpm as you decelerate.

I noticed it right after I installed my 4# and Gatorback belt. This issue has been debated before on this board. Many have said it is due to the blower spinning faster, but another theory is the cross-ribbed belt makes more noise at low speeds than the stock belt does. I believe it is the belt.

Personally, I absolutely LOVE the noise and wish it was 10 times louder. Sounds a little like a Vortech on a Mustang when idling around.

I have the 6# with a Gates belt, not the gatorback. I don't experience this sound. The last explanation might be it. I agree, I would love the vortech noise as well

If it's a Gatorback belt, that's the source of the noise.

I have to agree with you and say that the sounds is AWESOME, but I just wanted to make sure that there is nothing wrong. Kinda took me by surprise. I am sure it's kinda intimidating if someone pulls up to you and they hear that @#$. I guess it is the belt since a lot of people don't get the noise without the gatorback belt.

I run the JLP 3#er with the stock belt no noise but my buddy with a JLP 4#er and the gatorback has the sound you have it's just the belt.

Pulley Question

I guess we have the noise all figured out Thanks!!! I have one more question. I was wondering if anyone has a pulley that does not have the support bracket/cage on it? I installed a pulley that did not come with the bracket and I was kinda worried about the long term effects on the bearings etc. Thanks guys!!!

What's interesting is that I have a very similar setup and mine does not make the noise you describe at idle.
She really screams at WOT though!

She screams like a son of a @#$%@ at WOT. Love it. It must be the belt making the noise. It sounds cool, but at first, I thought there was something wrong.

The "turbine" noise appears to be normal with the belt, so don't worry about anything being wrong.

Just enjoy it when your neighbors turn their heads to see what that "jet engine" sound is as you are doing your 10mph cruise down the street.

FYI, the cageless pullies have been used by hundreds of guys on here without a problem.

Also, if the serpentine belt driving the A/C, and all the other accessories ever breaks, you'll be glad you've got a cageless, because it's 10 times easier to change the inner belt when you can easily remove the outer belt.
