93 5.8L vs. 03 5.4L
93 5.8L vs. 03 5.4L
My best friend joey has a 93 lightning and it has an aftermarket supercharger running 8 psi of boost. One night at are hangout a 03 came buy and wanted to race but wouldn't dare touch my friends lightning, why because the 93 has 440 horse at fly but is heavier than the 03, I think he still shouldve ran against the 93. the crazy thing was the 03 raced my best friend Jakes camaro (95 LT1) that runs 13.6 and scares off corvette owners and puts them to shame. They went at it and the camaro beat it barly by pulling in the end and it was the best race if seen. What would win the 93 or the 03? what do you have for a lightning and what mods and what has gave you a run for your money!
Actually, the Gen1s are lighter than the Gen2s. It'd be a close race, but I believe the '03 would win. Take a '93 with 8psi, and it'll be very low 14s to very high 13s, where the '03 would run mid 13s. However, the exhaust is much more restrictive on the Gen1s; throw on a high flow Bassani/Pickrel setup and they'd be even

Jakes camaro might look scary and thats why the Corvette owners feel shame... 13.6 is not fast enough... The crazy thing is Jake and Joey should run 2 out of 3 and then the winner could get beat by the 03.
camaro beat it barly by pulling in the end interesting.
cool story, your lucky to have 2 best friends with hot cars but to answer your question the 03 would take Joeys cool truck.

It really depends on the truck and modifications.
I have been racing my 1993 Lightning for years and I have had the opportunity to race alot of Gen2s. Though I have no power adder, many of my North eastern Gen2 friends can tell you its still no slouch.
Like the Gen2s, the weather really has an effect on my time. In the cooler weather the truck is pretty consistent in the 13.8 - 13.9 range. in the heat I am in the 14.1 range.
While I have beat a few stock Gen2s , most trucks I race seem to be just out of my range; in the 13.1 - 13.5 range.
I will be adding a converter and hope to drop to the 13.5 range where most of my races seem to be.

There is a video of me racing a Gen2.

It would be a dead even race. The '93-'95 Lightnings are lighter than the 2nd Gen L's, but when a supercharger & intercooler are added, the weight difference would be negligible. The main advantage a Gen 2 L would have over the Gen 1, would be traction - 295 vs 275 sized tires.
However, the key factor in any race is the driver. Put a bad driver in any car, and the end result will always be poor (I've seen a 'rich' bad driver in a 405hp '02 Z06 run the 1/4 mile in 13.3s - grinded second and third and fourth!)

I try to confine my Racing to the track. there are too many variable out there on the street where someone would get injured. If I do any blasts on the street, I usually do it late when nobodys around.
I enjoy the truck and nearly 10 years later I am still not bored.
be safe
