Why is the truck not starting up in the cold?

hey guys lately the lightning takes a few trys to start up in the colder weather, whats the deal???

i pulled my chip and it still does it....

last year it wouldn't start at all, and i found that my wires to the starter were messed up, and i fixed that, so what could be the problem now???

Well what do you mean doesn't start? Crank no start, no crank no start. Big diff.

replace your starter solanoid that might be it and it only costs about $9.00 bucks at your local auto parts store.

cranks, cranks, and cranks, and just doesn't start.

i do it a few times, taking 10-20 sec breaks in between, and usually by the 3rd to 4th time it starts right up.

but heres the kicker, sometimes after i start it, it pops up RPM's like normal to 12-1500ish, and then drop dramactically below 500rpm and almost stalls out, and then recovers....??

oh, and i use 5w30

UPDATE: Pulled all plugs, they are all in good shape except for the tips are all white/goldey in color.

Dirty/worn, stuck closed IAC valve.................??? Tap it with a 'soft' hammer and if that 'fixes' it, then remove it and soak/flush it with brake/carb cleaner. If it's worn, replacement may be necessary???

Bad IAC valve or a leak in the vacuum lines going to it. I recently had similar problems after knocking one of the vacuum lines loose while changing plugs on the passenger side. $.02
