Me and my friend are trying to turn her check engine light indicator off.. She took it to the mercury dealership and they fixed the problem with her car but I guess they never turned the light off.. She had some kind of problem with her battery.. They fixed the problem to get it inside the auto center..They told her something was wrong with the cable ends..They fixed the car to the point where it starts and drivable...Is there some kind of restart routine to turn the engine check light off...Car drives fine but the engine light just bugs her... Can someone offer some advice?? Its a 2000 mercury cougar..

I know we can turn code indicator lights off by reseting our PCU on our trucks..By mercury being same as ford, could it possibly work the same way with her car??

Just clear the PCM by disconnecting the Negative battery terminal and turning the headlights on (drains all residuals) for about 30 second. Then turn off the lights and reconnect the negative battery terminal.
