REM Oil Separator ?

I installed the REM Oil Separator last night and today took the '03 L for a spin. Went about 5 miles or so. Did do WOT a couple of times for short distances. When I got home I popped the hood and found glass collection jar on the separator about a quarter of the way up from the bottom filled with oil. I guess my first question is isn't that alot in there in a very few miles. Are you guys with the REM Oil Separator getting that much so quick? I'll be emptying that thing daily with the mileage I put on. Also, throw the oil out or pour it down the oil fill hole?

I made a habit of checking it every fuel fillup....and there is usually about 3/4" of oil in the bowl. I dump it back into the engine.

At least we know the PCV system is well lubricated

When it's new you do. After you have it on for a year or so it slows down. I think the filter gets clogged and its not as efficient after a while. I have never cleaned mine. It still pulls plenty of oil out.

That brings up another question>>> What type of maintenance do you do on your REM Oil Separator. Can you clean that filter, can you buy a replacement filter, where do you buy that filter replacement?

Your probably just picking up residual oil that was allready in your line. Give the bowls a few dumpings and the oil accumulation will slow down drastically. I drain and clean mine once a month. I also found that the air compressor oil seperator bowls that are sold at Walmart for 10 bucks, look exactly the same and do the same job as REMs 50 dollar pieces. Clean your bowl with soap and water only and unscrew the filter and clean it with brake clean as needed or once a month. Her is a pic of my high dollar Walmart oil seperators...

I experienced the same result. Initially she filled up quickly, but the slow down is already noticeable. I have had mine for a couple months.

D-Day

Well, I drove the 48 mile round trip to work last night/this am and got a little more then half an inch in the bottom. So, oil to collector has slowed down. Oh, Promodlightning thank you and the others for your feedback. By the way, I knew I could get hardware like REM made their Oil Separator with and saved myself some $. Only drawback to my doing it is my time getting together the fittings, etc.. My time is worth more then the $50 that REM charged me so to be cost effective it was best for me to just buy the thing from REM. I appreciate your mentioning the source (Walmart) of a similar separator as when cleaning / replacement time comes I will grab one of them. Thanks again! BillArf

The first 2 days I had mine it was about half full.

Now I empty mine about once every 800-1000 miles... its usually about 85% full by then...I dump it out though, there is no point in pouring it back into the crank case. Our trucks only need 5.5 quarts of oil anyhow...and I always put 6 quarts in...so there is a whole 1/2 quart that isnt needed anyway.

What line is the separator plumbed into and what is the specific flow orientation of the separators (if there is one)??

I'm not a lightning owner but would like to install separators for a supercharged Crown Vic

Question, does our L motor have so much ring blow-by pressure that oil is being blown out of the crankcase or is the oil being sucked out by vacuum? If the ansewer is vacuum, is the vacuum source the intake manifold(under the inter-cooler), upper plenum (on top the supercharger) or the rubber intake boot( before the throttle body)? All of the above are vacuum sources attached to the oil source, the crankcase.
