F1s @ tirerack

I needed a new tire so I ordered the stock F1s from tirerack @ the clearance price of 165. I got an Email today sayin my order was shipped. But check this out -

1 P295/45WR-18 Goodyear Eagle F1 GS In Stock $165.00

Last time I checked the F1s were ZR rated. Either way, a W rating, according to tirerack is "168 mph 270 km/h Exotic Sports Cars."
I guess I have an Exotic Sports Car
Did goodyear change the rating? Is this the wrong tire??

There is a lot of possibilities. There are two tires
now that are produced for our trucks. The "W"
rating is a higher rating speed wise than the "Z".
The load capacity is different also.

Generally the 165 dollar ones are the clearance
tire with the lower load cap. These are the ones
on the 01-02's as stock (The "Z")

There is also another tire that has a side wall
rating of 108 that increases the payload some
for the '03's

I think either is fine, and I have 4 of the 165 dollar
ones mounted up right now.

Great deal !!!

No that was a typo on their part. I ordered the clearance tires from Tirerack 2 weeks ago and the speed rating was ZR on the tires rec'd.

I got my tires from tirerack and it's not completely true that the tires are Z rated, even though the sidewall says ZR. When I was about to leave the Goodyear dealer after they installed my tires, I noticed that the tires were marked "ZR" rather than the "WR" that I had ordered from Tirerack. I spoke to manager and he said that under U.S. specifications they are considered Z rated tires, but under european specifications, they are considered W rated tires. If you look on the sidewall, you'll notice (if i remeber correctly) that there is a second designation "W" in much smaller lettering. I double checked this (to make sure the goodyear manager wasn't blowing smoke up my... well, you know) by comparing my new "W" tires to my "Z" rated tires that came with the truck originally and sure enough the original tires didn't have the W designation. So, no it's not a typo by tirerack.

The only difference between the $165 tire and the more $$$ is the weight rating. W101 vs the W108. Ford increased the weight for the 03, that why the *** is so high on them.

might be nice ot mention what the"defect" was so others receiving new F1's from wherever can be on the look-out for such a defect. Your info could say somebodys butt. It is possible for some tire monkey to mount a tire and miss an obvious defect.

FYI, the "Z" rating was divided into 2 sub-categories several years back, apparently because so many cars are capable of 150mph.

Z is a category over 149mph. "W" means up to 168mph and "Y" means up to 186mph.

The only place you will see the W or Y is after the weight rating, i.e. 108W.

Cool

A week after I bought my Nitto 555's the F1's popped up for $159 a tire. Talk about bad timing.

The Nitto's are nosier with less traction wet or dry than F1's. I have never been a Goodyear fan but it's hard to beat the F1's for daily driving on the L. The only thing better on the rear would be 555R's for traction. That's the route I will probably take to keep my tires from spinning 1/3 to 1/2 way through 2nd gear. I can only imagine what it's going to be like when it gets cooler.

I wish more people gave an objective opinion without the attitude that I bought these so they've got to be the best thing since sliced bread. I based my purchase on what little info I had read about these tires on the forums. Apparently that was a mistake.

I paid more and got less but I'm not going to tell everybody how great they are so I can justify the purchase in my own mind. They are not a bad tire but they're just not as good as the F1's.

I purchased some F1's from tirerack a few months ago at $159 they are Z rated but like others I believe that they are the lower payload.

I was very pleased with the shipping, I ordered them late at night and had them the next afternoon.
