Getting ready for my first mod, but I have questions...

Ok, so I am going to bite the bullet and install the 3# lower pulley that's been in my closet for the last month. That (and my K&N panel filter) will be my only mod for a while. I'm not doing a chip because I am scared of the FWG (Ford Warranty Gestapo). For safety of the truck, what do I need to do before/immediately after I change the pulley? Boost bypass mod? Change plugs? If so, plugs with cooler heat range? Which plugs? Coolant change? Dyno pull to verify safe A/F ratio? Anything? I'm real paranoid about grenading the engine, so I am trying make sure I have all my bases covered. It's a 2002 with 14,000 miles, if that makes a difference. Thanks again guys...

Matt

You might want to change the plugs and switch to a 160 thermostat

A dyno pull would help for peace of mind.

I dont have a pulley or anything on my truck so I can't tell you for sure, but from what i've read that's the best way to insure that it's safe.

I highly recommend a chip to be safe. It is easy to pull out when you go in for service. Besides, it's peace of mind when you're doing full throttle blasts. But if you are dead set against it...

Go 1 range colder plug, (i.e. NGK TR6 or Denso IT-20).

Be very careful when the temps drop. That cool air can mean big detonation problems with extra boost.

To be safe, run only 94 octane (if you can find it).

I say go for a plug change also. At least go through an make sure all the plugs are properly tightened.

Also go for the dyno pull w/ A/F. That will give you an idea if you rich or lean.

What about the boost bypass, do I need it? Will it hurt anything if I do/don't do it? And what's so cool about the Predator?

you only need a boost bypass if you are dumping your boost and the truck is falling on its face. it will only hurt something if you bump the revlimiter causing it to cut fuel, but it cant dump boost so you run leaner then hell.
