Oil consumption

How much oil are you guys burning in between oil changes? For those of you running synthetic do you burn more oil than you did with conventional? Thanks.

How long between your oil changes as this has bearing on the issue. As for my '03 L, I use approx 3/4 quart in 3,000 miles.
Did same with regular oil and now with 5W-30 Mobile 1. Just ordered Oil separator.

My truck seems to burn insane amounts of oil. I just made a post about it a couple of days ago, its called "insane oil burning". I use Amzoil Synthetic 5W30.

My truck somehow managed to burn two quarts in 2000 miles. I'm probably going to get it checked soon. Hope it's nothing too serious.

My truck was consuming about one quart per 3,000 miles, (every oil change) for the first 19,000 miles. Then I installed the oil separator, and the PVC mod. I was amazed after that, no more oil consumption. Currently 30,000 on truck, When I did these mods, I also cleaned the throttle body (very dirty) and ported/polished the intake manifold.
At 29,000 miles I installed the plastic spacer (between intake and blower) no signs of oil and everything was clean! Before there was oil pooling in front of the throttle body in the boot!

my truck is about to go out of warranty. i asked the foreman at my ford dealer who i'm tight with and he said ford considers a quart every 1000 miles to be within normal specs. i burn a quart of synthetic every 1500 miles.

I change the oil every 3K miles with stock filter and the Mobile 1. I also do the fuel filter every 3K.

Mine goes through a quart of Mobil 1 every 3000 miles. That's when I change it. I clean the intake and IAC regularly. I'm sure most of it goes through the PCV valve. I don't have a seperator.

Jim,

No offense intended. I'm one who is typically a little on the over kill side but I don't have a clue how you could hurt a fuel filter in 3,000 miles.

So you did both mods? Did you replace both pcv 's or just the drivers side.

At first I did the oil separator mod. It was collecting or filling the reservoir ½ (2 to 3 oz) way up in one week. (A lot of oil going in there) I was glad that, that amount of oil was not going in to the intake,( Plenum, throttle body and boot) however I did not like the weekly maintenance.

Then I read about the PVC mod from one of the supporting vendors, I think it was around $20.00, or there about. It consisted of two PVC’s one for each side, It also had a check valve with a small hose clamp. This vendor claimed to eliminate all the oil going in to the Plenum, However since I had the other mod (oil separator) there already, I figured to leave it on..

Results: The oil separator now collects about 1/8 teaspoon of oil per week (250 miles) So the PVC valves do not stop all the oil, some small amount still passes by. I’m happy with these mods, first it completely stopped the oil coming in to my intake, second it eliminated the weekly oil draining session from the separator, and it stopped the frequent engine check oil and fill session, I do not add any oil now in-between oil changes. I bet my gas mixture likes it also!
