My bone stock '02 times

3 runs total.

First run, 92 Deg F ambient, no cooldown (off the interstate):

2.11 60'
9.09 @ 78.81 1/8
14.11 @ 98.47 1/4

Second run, 94 Deg F ambient, no cooldown:

2.21 60'
9.21 @ 78.53 1/8
14.22 @ 98.25 1/4

This was with the truck in true stock form...no mods, no weight reduction. I thought a good cooldown was in order as well as pulling out the stock air filter. I wanted to yank the spare and hitch too, but no time. The following run had me scratching my head. 95 Deg F ambient:

2.16 60'
9.16 @ 78.81 1/8
14.20 @ 97.40

What I don't get is how the truck was so strong in the 1/8, but lost a whole mph in the quarter. The only thing I can figure is detonation (and pulled timing), or the lack of air filter causing some laminar flow through the MAF.

FWIW, I was beating most of the stock/mild LT1 and LS1 setups (even with slicks). They would run a bit faster though, 101-103 MPH. I also consistently beat out a new Mach1 (mid 14's at 98 MPH).

Planned mods are a cone setup, lowering kit, drop some unnecessary weight (hitch, spare, etc), exhaust, and possibly a 2-3 lb pulley.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

Cory

go with filter pulley chip. If not able to buy all at once buy them in the order listed so you dont have to keep reburn the chip.

ericksco, your truck is running fine. The problem is the 90+ degree temps. If you want to see what kinda times your truck can run stock before modding it, wait a month and take it back to the track in October. By then temps should be in the 60/70 range and your L will be running mid to high 13's all day!

In high 70's weather, my truck w/ a 2.2s 60' time ran 13.9 @ 100.5 mph (needless to say, I couldn't hook up and spun my tires through 1st gear!)

I ran my truck once with 1700 miles on it and ran 13.6 @101 with a drop in K&N and a MAC catback, temp. was 80 and it was humid. So your times look about right

I think my next mod will be a 4 lb pulley.

yeah I'd keep your money in your pocket till the weather cools down and you get your stock times where they need to be. You should at least go 13.6 or so stock... if you want to go faster than that, then do an open filter, a chip and a pulley... Then you should see 12's even on a hot day... good luck man, Shane

Let some air out of those tires (26-28psi) and launch at idle toget that 60ft down and you'll be much happier

hey where are you in MN. I'm at the University of St. Thomas right now and have a Trans Am and am considering selling it and saving a few more bones to get a 99 or 00 lightning. I would love to see you truck and maybe get a ride since no dealer will let you pull off the lot unless you have darn near buy it.
