Heater/Air/Vent Control ? -'03 L

Yes, I have looked over the manual but still have questions.
Have an '03 L. On the control **** there are 2 settings that say AC. One is for closed system air and one for open system air.
Then there is Off and one for floor, one for defrost, etc.. I also know the compressor for the air is on always unless you turn the **** to OFF. Anyway, it really seems that if I say set the **** to Floor or combo floor and dash I still am getting air conditioned air if the temp adjustment **** is in the blue zone... My imagination?

your right, A/C runs in MAX AC, AC, PANEL&FLOOR, and the two defroster settings.

edit, and yea you will still get air conditioned air even if its in the red.

I guess I don't understand the question, but unless you have the A/C on you shouldn't be getting cool air.

SOoooo, basically as I thought unless you set the **** to OFF you are always getting air-conditioned air. No bigge but at least it is not my imagination. Hmmm, every other truck / car I have had the air conditioning was off all the time unless you turned it on. The L is opposite. Geeez, now I do not have to remember to turn the air on once in awhile, in the Winter, etc. so the air compressor seals stay lubricated, etc..

i think most fords are like this actually. my moms windstar was like it, my friends f150, other friends expy, they all run the a/c in the panel floor position. now when you have electronic climate control thats a differnet story.

Pretty much the A/C cycles during the defrost mode. In the A/C mode it cycles on/off more frequent from my understanding to cool of course. In the defrost mode it cycles because the by-product of AC is drier air which will remove moisture. The only settings that don't use the AC are floor and vent. Hope this helps.

Gill,
You are correct, the only time the AC is not on is in the Panel or Floor positions (and of course Off). When it's in the Floor/Panel blend the AC is on, as well as all other positions.

Thats why! I was wondering why Panel&Floor was so much colder than all of the other settings
