AXLE update
AXLE update
Well as some of you know by now I lost both rear axles doing a road course event. At first I thought it was the splines striped out.But took it apart this am and they broke at the snap ring grooves.Called up the company that made them,[that was recommended to me by the likes of MW Moser and such].And they said that is a common point to break.Funny thing is the stock axles worked for 2+ years and these only worked 1HOUR!!So I did some testing and they did not heat treat them they were to be close to 57 Rc and they are DEAD soft! The stock axle goes to 52+Rc.so it is their mistake but they are still not willing to own up to it.so I am having them made locally[found out after I had these on order],They said no problem.OH and the initial cost to have them made was 650.00.Will update farther after i get the metalurgy test back on what the material was used and the supposed heat treat.Stan
No it is american. Will not give anymore info out untill I get the test back and I confront them with it.Then me and my attorney will remedy the problem!!Like i said on who recommended them.Just call them up and ask if they can do CV Joint axles. And then you will know.Stan
The thing is I knew they were softer than the original ones. That why I had them shotpeened before I installed them.I know better now I will ck the Rockwell BEFORE I install another set..

That sucks Stan
I hope everything works out for you.
This is why I am sticking with my stock axles at least for now. I know they can handle more HP and Torque than the differential can take. You do hear fo people blowing the differential, but never the axles.
