Raced an 03 cobra!

So me and a buddy of mine are cruising south down el camino when i see a silverish grey 03 cobra a couple of cars ahead of me, so i decided to catch up. The two of us ended up cruising next to each other for a while talking, he was a really nice guy.

All of a sudden i hear him say "Wanna Run" I smiled and said sure. The weird thing is that he said he wanted to to it from a roll, didn't know why but i agreed.

We were both going about 30 when we both slammed it. Both cars took of like crazy.

We were both dead even till about 90 when i let of and hit the brakes. Speed limit was 35 but it was 2:00 am and there was nobody on the road. It was a crazy race; both my truck and his car were whining like crazy.

Greatest feeling ever. By the way, i raced him with everything in my sig except for the pulley and plugs. Cant wait till those go on then it's gonna be over.

Anyways just thought i'd share. Sorry about the long post.

Ever try to launch a 5.0 or 4.6 Mustang from a dead stop ?
Now imagine a 380 HP S/C Cobra, NO TRACTION AT ALL
You would have dusted him big time from a dead stop

But put some slicks on that Cobra, a filter and upper pulley,
and it's SEE YA in the 11's

Nice race Jubelands

Actually, the 03 Cobras hook really well on stock F1's! Much better than the L's do....

Bah, this is untrue.

It takes one hell of a driver to launch a mod 32V powered snake without either spinning the tires or bogging it.

That IRS is the biggest problem on that car. You have a 50/50 chance of snapping a half shaft launching it while it begins to hop. If you dont let off the throttle, youre going to snap one of those shafts.

Solid axle is going right into mine within the first month. After that ill add the Griggs Panhard Bar , Torque Arm and be smoking those IRS equipped Cobras on a road course or drag strip.

not really, the new 03's will launch really good, just dont dump the clutch at 3000 rpm, if you tach it up a little say 2000 and ease into the throttle as you let off the gs it hooks up really well, i like the irs, it handels great and launches well on the street, unless you plan on making it a full blown drag car i wouldn't do a swap.
they did a good job on the irs. and once you establish traction you can POWERSHIFT these things, with the TC off of course and it hardly spins at all, mabe for a few feet, but not bad, i have seen plenty of drivers land mid 12's with f1's. wich is harder to do with the "L", i have the oprotunity to drive both, and with a good driver the cobra is pretty fast.

Hmmm, 1.81 60' on the stock F1's ... on my Lightning. No way in hell, I'll get those times with my '03 Cobra on the stock F1's at the same track. BTW, yes I can drive it, I beat the snot outta my '99 Cobra at the track so I am VERY familiar with launching an IRS car. The L is MUCH MUCH easier. BTW, my Cobra will "hop" on a 1-2 powershift, not just spin a few feet.

i wasn't talking about 60' times, but at the end of a 1/4 mile wou will clearly see what an 03 looks like from behind, with a good driver, i really havent seen to many lightnings run good solid mid to low 12's on f1's i belove hdmilinium ran a 12 flat on 20's but he is really modded, all im saying is in 1/4 mile aspect it takes a good lightning to get a cobra., and i to drive an 03 cobra.

EDIT: back in the jan issue "i belive it was jan" of MM&FF they tested a new cobra and with the jack and spair removed they ran 3 runs at 12.0-12.1's ion f1's it was in cool weather but show me a lightning that will run that without slicks and i will bet my bottom dollar it is modded out the wazoo.
