ranger with lightning motor

I was thinking the other day of how a ranger with a lightning motor, new tranny, beefed up drivetrain, etc would make as a nice sleeper truck

A reg cab 4x4, short bed. Obviously 2wd would be cool. But i need 4x4 for the winter.

You will have to do some serious chassis stiffening.

I talked to the SVT folks when they had the Thunderbolt out here and they told me the frame began to stretch and bend before they beefed it up

Ford built the Lightning Bolt and tested it back in 2002. You can read about it below:

Ive seen that truck in person...its pretty sweet. Pickuptruck.com might still have the article. If you had a dozen SVT employees working on it for you...it would be a breeze

I believe the rears were widened to 12", and were wrapped 345/35/ZR18 ('03 Viper) tires !

The article said the truck had 235 tires up front and 345 tires out back. A 235 tire with a low 40-45 profile would mount on an 8 inch wheel. The only car I know that uses a low profile 345 tire is the new Viper, and that tire is mounted on a 13 inch wheel.

The engine wouldn't even clear the frame to go in. The SVT concept Ranger was virtually a Ranger body thrown on an F150 frame It had F150 axles, wheels, etc. Unless you can custom modify a frame, and still have it hold up to a lot of torque, I wouldn't suggest it.
