Frustrated as hell
Truck is in to the dealer AGAIN for the same problem. It makes the marbles rattiling in a can sound at trottle tip in, boost guage at 0. Been to three dealers..they dont know what to do, so they simply say it is normal and hand the f'ing car back to me. Anyone have any ideas? The car will go out of warrenty after this service.

There is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING normal about detonation. There are several things that can cause detonation,...most commonly, Bad gas or not enough octane. If gas isn't the issue, then apparently either the motor isn't getting enough fuel at a given rpm, or there's too much timing in that aspect of your tune. I may be way off base here in terms of what's causing the problem...But I can ASSURE you that detonation is the single worst and most destructive trait any motor can have and it's NOT NORMAL! Best of luck to ya man. I hope they find the problem!Rob
Does it do it any RPM and MPH>??? Maybe something is loose up front>??? Top end of the motor coming apart>??? Something in the exhaust system>??? Cats or mufflers or maybe a heat shield. Have you looked over the truck yourself>??? Might be a good idea. Isn't it true if you have a problem written down in writing that isn't fixed and it leads to something else out of warranty they still have to cover it>??? Best of luck. -Mat-

I was afraid it might be detonation. I called SVT and the Ford Customer relationship center in hopes of getting something accomplished. The dealer wants to hear nothing of it, and just wants to give the truck back "it is normal" they say.
Truck has been doing it for years, and been to 3 dealers for this. No resolution. It happens at any speed, at about 2500 rpm under the conditions I mentioned above.
BTW my truck is and always has been bone stock, to avoid issues like these.

i wonder if its actually detonation, usually with the time you say its been going on, the motor would be in pieces by now.
this is kinda off the subject, but it seems that these trucks make all kinds of wierd noises that no one can figure out. doesnt mean theyre bad.

Ford's "customer relationship center" is a joke. They are trained to make you feel like you are wrong/are making a big deal out of nothing/know nothing.
Most ford (dealership) service manager's act like **** bastards too. They are trained to make you feel like you dont know what you are talking about/and or it's more complicated than that/and or "it's fixed" even though it isn't. I have had them tell me "it's fixed" Then when i ask if it is still going to make that metal on metal banging noise (or whatever) they would look me in the eye and say "yes" .."it's operating as designed" Well, the engineers designed a piece of &%#@ in my opinion.
I havent had any problems with my L, but i have with other ford's in the past. My advice , take comfort in being that much wiser. It's long hard road to beat those @##holes.
I am die hard Ford,i have just come to realize that once i buy it, it's mine to repair. Ford could care less.
I could go on and on about "dealer service" and ford "customer care". In general, they suck.

By now, your combustion chambers may be carboned-up? If so, this can raise the compression ratio, bringing on detonation or preignition.
Ford techs(and others) have a machine/kit they can hook up to your intake to force a cleaning agent into the air stream that will flow into the combustions chambers and clean "some" of it away.
If it's hardened, then the only way to clean them correctly/fully is to remove the heads and scrape it physically off/out. Mucho $$$$!
You might want to have your fuel pressure checked to see if the pumps are working fully and of course, you have had your fuel filter changed in the last 8,000 miles or less....................????
Incorrect(too hot or too worn) spark plugs or a restricted exhaust can cause pinging too.

The marble noise you are hearig is air conservation within the blower. Usally this noise is heard more whe you add a lower or upper pulley. The noise is normal and can usally be removed via your chip. If you go under your hood truck idel u will hear the noise...raise RPM and the noise will go away. Hope this helps
MISTERgadget, I had the same problem. I went to a Ford dealer and they insisted that there was nothing. After complaining how I wasn't happy with "there is nothing wrong" they had a quality control rep test drive the truck. He too insisted there was nothing wrong. On top of it they scratched my bumper in which I still need to take it to them cause they owe me a paint job on the bumper. In the end I was so p@ssed off that I just picked up the truck.
Now, I recomend that you check and make sure that the fuel fitter has been changed. When you get home open the air box and check your airfilter and clean if possible. You might want to change brands of gas to test out. I did the above after I picked up my truck and within few days found that it took 75% if not more of it away.
My new problem that I have noticed in the past week is that I am having some detonation at higher rpms vs. tip in throttle. I am assuming from reading from here and other members info that I might be experiencing the good ol "spark plug issue".
Just like another person said since your warranty is almost up you might want to invest in a tuned chip. I know I am coming up in october I will be doing chip/pulley/ram air/plugs. If there is anything questions I might be able to help you with feel free to email me! Good luck
