L starting problems!

HELP! About ever 4th start my 2002 L will attempt to start and then just die off... like it's choking. Once i start it again it will lite off with no problems, maybe just a little hesitation at first, but it will start and stay running. I have had the battery/alternator tested and am thinking about a 50 mile dealer trip to pensacola. The L has 11,000 miles, no mods except a magnaflow cat back, and has had no problems such as check engine lights or any other indications. I'm starting to think that it's fuel related, like the fuel is draining back to the tank or there's a computer A/F ratio problem.??? Any help from the experienced around here is much appreciated!!

Does it do it when you first get in it in the morning, or after it has sat for a hour or so??

Or does it only do it when you turn off the truck and restart it a few minutes later??

I bet it is the 2nd one.

If so it seems most of our trucks do this sometimes.

If you haven't changed the fuel filter yet it looks like you are due.

I think fuel filter too.. My wife just said that!! Damn proud of her...

But yeah, it does it after just shutting it off after less than an hour.

is the inertia fuel shutoff switch still in the RH kickpanel?? I will need to kill all of the pressure b-fore changing it

Thanks Don!

Get a fuel filter for a Navigator, much bigger. It won't fit back into the stock spring clamp, but if you move the lines around a bit it will fit right underneath the clamp and sit right on top of the lower part of the frame rail. Then you can zip tie it if you feel the need. Nice fit actually.
A side note.... when I pulled the original one off mine and blew through it seemed totally plugged, I expected to find all kinds of dirt in it when I cut it open. But there was none, and the filter appeared clean. It was almost like the paper element just went bad from age ? maybe varnish ? I dunno.... But I plan to change it out every other oil change from now on. Cheap insurance, and easy to do. Less than 5 min.

This could also have to do with your cam position sensor. Did it to me...
