funky sound

there is a high pitched whine that intermittenly turns on and off when I drive around (while cruising and sitting still at idle and throughout the rpm range). Its not the blower, as Im pretty familiar with what that sounds like. I was just wondering if it was a fuel pump or what? I originally thought it was a stereo issue with the blower causing interference with my stock unit, but the sound is still audible when the system is turned off. I am still getting used to my new truck and the cause of this sound has so far eluded me. There definitely a few more quirks with this than the old f-150....

Check your powersteering fluid level. I had to get my powersteering pump replaced shortly after buying my truck because it was losing fluid.

Cool

A number of ford cars and trucks had owner complaints about a noise like your describing?

It is the HVAC blower motor.

Next time you hear it quickly shut off the fan. Or turn it up to see it that will change the noise.

I had the exact same thing happen to me. It turns out it was the radio. Even when you turn it off the internal fan stays on for a while. I had my radio replaced. The new one has only done it once and it definitely helps keep the fan off when the A/C is on.

Good luck. Originally I thouht my noise was from a bad fuel pump, kindof like the sound my '92 5.0 made on a cool morning.
